I’ve just seen one of those horrific abuse pictures again, I couldn’t look at it for long enough to report it. Is there anyone moderating tonight?

Ffs I’m too scared to open random threads that I’d normally randomly read when I can’t get back to sleep in the early hours 😭

Please can horrible people F off and just leave this site for women who want to have a chat and a read!!!! Hope they get locked up and key thrown away. Absolutely hideous

PurpleSky300 · 15/02/2025 02:24

Can someone please reassure me these weren't real images

lnks · 15/02/2025 02:25

Jesus

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/02/2025 02:27

I think they will be real but idk for sure @PurpleSky300 how awful.

TinklySnail · 15/02/2025 02:28

WTF, is this for real? Some actually posted pictures of abuse? Not indecent images surely?

ididnot · 15/02/2025 02:29

I think there is a good chance that they aren’t. Sorry - it’s horrible i know, it really upset me as well.

Nottodaythankyouverymuch · 15/02/2025 02:30

What is wrong with people???

ANightwatcher · 15/02/2025 02:30

One of the MNHQ staff have removed them and banned the user

somedayforoneday · 15/02/2025 02:31

I didn’t see the ones posted tonight but unfortunately did see the ones posted last week. They looked pretty real to me. Horrific.

Nottodaythankyouverymuch · 15/02/2025 02:32

And assume they are reported to police? Is there anything stopping them from just creating new accounts and continuing?

BreadInCaptivity · 15/02/2025 02:32

It could well be a photo shop. I hope so anyway. Obviously though we don’t know. It does make you feel horrible though, I feel as if I’ve done something horrendous now and I haven’t of course but I still feel it.

That’s exactly how I felt. I felt lukewarm I did something wrong by just seeing them. Never xame across anything remotely like that in my life before. Can’t believe it’s happened again.

ididnot · 15/02/2025 02:40

I know - I can’t sleep at all now Sad I was up with the baby and just happened to click. Anyway sorry, shouldn’t go on but it really is unsettling.

Jojoisnotmyname · 15/02/2025 02:41

Thank goodness I never saw it, but I thought pictures were being screened before they were uploaded?

I was the same last week, it was just so shocking to see on a thread about bloody soup. Had to look at them to even report. You honestly can’t unsee them. Worst thing I gave ever clapped eyes on.

They need to ban photos

As mentioned on another thread just now, we thought they were @mnhq

A man that gets a kick out of hurting children and women.

Feeding off any comments about how upsetting seeing the images was and who will continue to enjoy tomorrow the numerous threads/posts about this issue and the posters who will blame MNHQ.

They did for a few days I think, then it was reinstated as a site feature.

lnks · 15/02/2025 02:51

I was on a thread earlier where the OP couldn’t post a picture of her baby scan because it was being flagged as ‘sensitive content’, and yet these fuckers can put up images of CSA

I love MN, I have been here for many years, but the fact this has been allowed to happen again is outrageous.

IJWMM · 15/02/2025 03:20

I saw the threads a week or so ago regarding what had been posted, it’s awful it’s happened again. I really feel for those that saw them, and for those on night duty that have had to deal with the posts, it’s way beyond any remit for voluntarily moderating a forum in the nighttime hours.

I am sure that there will be one person, if not a mish-mash group, that will be eagerly monitoring this site for responses - they will get a kick out of it. The more that people describe their reactions to this type of thing, the more it will please them.

MN need to advise, robustly and urgently, what is being put in place to minimise this risk, especially regarding the fact that it’s happened so soon after the last one.

However, I don’t think that the answer is disabling all photo uploads from now on. There are a number of boards/topics that would not be the same without photo uploads. Banning photos would be the first step for outside influences to shut down freedom of discussion on here - they’d be incredibly happy with that.

MN need to keep a pinned post at the top of this topic (and also somewhere on the main page of their site) to proactively update what they’re doing to stamp this out. And to advise how to report these awful posts for a quick response, no matter what time zone anyone resides in when they’re spotted.

These infiltrations are beyond vile, but please don’t let them win by slowly chipping away at what they don’t want us to have - a space to have a voice no matter what your circumstances are.

Just to reiterate - MN, it’s not a great optic that the latest discussions and info for resolutions are on this board. There’s probably many that don’t realise this board, or the Nightwatch, exist. I kind of get that you probably don’t want to put a “pinned” post on the main page, but there needs to be a better way of communicating to all of your users what to do in the event of situations like this.

To be clear Night Watch have confirmed that it was MNHQ who responded to the reports.

I'm telling myself they are AI to protect my mental health

IJWMM · 15/02/2025 04:09

@BreadInCaptivity - it’s good that they did, but it wasn’t clear from the SiteStuff board. Nor is it particularly clear what’s going on from the Nightwatch board - that is NOT a criticism of the NW board, more to say that your response doesn’t point to a blanket resolution.

Just to clarify, iAm not trying to vilify MN here. Nor the NW volunteers. IAm concerned with freedom of posting photos being removed - that starts a slippery slope as to what we (ie mainly women) are permitted to share - plenty of people would be happy to start by eroding something so innocuous and then keep going.

But I still stand by MN making it more known a) what the problem has been recently and b) roughly what is being put in place (with a timeline).

TBF to MN, they won’t be the only site to be targeted with such vile stuff. Other well-known platforms are (probably) worse for this. It doesn’t make it ok, but I think it makes it important why MN are as transparent or informative, to as many users as possible, what’s been happening and a) how they’re dealing with it and b) what to do if it happens again. As said before, not everyone is aware of Site Stuff or Nightwatch Boards.

Again, disabling image posting would be a huge “win” for a number of people out there. The first, and easiest, step to curtailing freedom of posting. The onus is on MN to be as robust as possible re it not happening in the first place, and making it clear to ALL users what to do asap if anything does get through.
