Do we really want a site for parents to be littered with adverts for tacky see through lingerie and sex toys? Really?

How about just not exposing people to adult content without their consent.

You know, nobody is obliged to log on here. Nobody. I don't get the bellyaching over this stuff me.

Fawn87 · 07/02/2025 17:43

If you've been reading the sex board you'll likely get these adverts. They don't bother me. It's an adult site and we all have sex.

Fawn87 · 07/02/2025 17:44

And I only get them when I'm on the sex board anyway, not elsewhere on the site.

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
Ridiculous?
People are just explaining how it advertising & algorithms works?

Just because you now feel a bit of a dick and/or didn't get the response you were looking for, doesn't make any poster 'ridiculous'

I really don’t. But okay.

I have never been on the sex board here. Didn’t even know there was one.

If that is true, that this is what you look at online. then someone in your house is looking at something QUITE different. 😂

Yes, it’s true.

I find that hard to believe to be honest unless you're new.

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2025 18:17

I've never been on it either and I've been here a long time.

What's with all the doubting Thomases on this thread?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 22:30

I’m not new and it’s true - but believe what you want.

They just want you to be paranoid and to feel silly and prudish. I see them as well but it doesn’t really bother me as it’s a site for adults at the end of the day. I do think we are more and more accepting of images though, the shop fronts are not want I want my young daughter seeing for example.

Thank you. I’m not paranoid, silly or prudish. I like sex (although sometimes I like sleep or even a nice cup of tea better). I no longer have young children. I totally think that children should be taught about sex in an age appropriate way and to be taught to understand that there’s nothing wrong with ladies in see through underwear if said ladies want to wear it. I’d just have preferred for my children, when small, to not accidentally see such pics when all I wanted to do was have a sneak on the Style and Beauty threads whilst ignoring my kids for ten minutes.

Yes. Good point about the shop windows too.

Again, that's the responsibility of the parents to keep their screens away from their children's eyes.

If they can't manage to do that, they'll need to wait until the kids are in bed or at school.

But I think most people manage just fine.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 22:46

My point is that on a site like this, I wouldn’t expect to need to guard my screen.

So shoot me.

Surely it's clever marketing and reaching their target audience?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/02/2025 22:52

How though? What percentage of Mumsnetters do you think would see it and think, “Hmmmm must add something scanty and bright pink and a couple of dildos to my shopping list for this week”?

A higher percentage than you think anyway! Valentines weekend coming up... I can't see why they wouldn't advertise on a site like this.

Out of roughly 8 million Mumsnetters?

Loads of course!

And as @Heidi2018 said, it's Valentine's Day a week today!

You don't need to guard your screen, it is women in underwear not hard core pornography.
Just teach you kids basic manners regarding tech use, that you don't look over people's shoulders and snoop to see what they're looking at.

I'm an adult woman with a healthy sex life, I don't mind admitting that if I saw an advert for a good deal on a vibrator I'd definitely have a look, they can get expensive and it's always ideal to have a back up for when the batteries die.

My children aren't overly interested in looking at my phone when I'm reading MN threads, and IF they did happen to see something aimed at adults, I'd explain it in an age appropriate way.

You would be surprised.

gamerchick · 08/02/2025 07:38

I can't believe you're still going on OP. You don't need a handhold wherever you go. You are your kids parent and it's up to you to modify your phone usage.

Now you know there is a sex board (I'm assuming you're new) and may come across an advent for anm summers in the run up to valentines day. You can look at something else

Bodybutterblusher · 08/02/2025 09:12

I just see adverts for clothing like next.

Bodybutterblusher · 08/02/2025 09:15

Maybe clear your cookies?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/02/2025 09:37

Oh ffs. I’m not new. I haven’t got young kids. I still don’t think these ads should be on here. The end.
