My partner does nothing to help thread contains paedophilia photos. Reported 40 minutes ago but they’re still there.

Is an administrator awake to remove them please?

Well, that’s very, very different to innocently clicking on a MN thread and chancing across some sick images. I won’t be clicking on any more threads until this is sorted.

How do we know you OR ANYONE ELSE WHO POSTS ON MN is not in league with "sicko paedophiles"?
I would not be at all surprised if the troll/s are not gleefully observing these reactions, or even posting themselves. You are giving them exactly what they want!

@BoreOfWhabylon this isn't just trolling, though. It's someone sharing CSAM on this website (a crime), the mods encouraging people to share links of it (a crime), and no report to the police being made.

How do any of us know we're safe on this site, and we're not about to catch a charge for being on this forum?

What has happened (or at least what has been reported as happening - I obviously haven’t sought to find the images to confirm it!) destroys people’s trust in the site, so what the poster wrote was a reasonable response in my opinion. It’s appropriate to have suspicions when something happens like this, especially if someone did indeed encourage the sharing of the images in the site.

No one is going to get charged simply for innocently chancing across a MN thread that some sicko has managed to post to.

This is, of course. very serious but there’s no excuse to catastrophise and worry people unnecessarily - that just plays the sicko’s game for them.

MN needs a serious reform, this should never have happened. A site this size and it’s not even moderated 24/7? It sounds like that thread was allowed to stand far longer than it should have been. Why aren’t photos screened?!

This site has become all about ad revenue and not the users. The change during the 15 years I’ve been here is massive.

We stayed up late to ensure there was someone around to delete this horrific images. To suggest any of us could have been in anyway responsible is absolutely disposable. This is not what I or any of the NW team need to read after what we've dealt with tonight

And the request to post links to the threads was to ensure those horrific images were dealt with as soon as possible. To ensure they were taken off a public site. Noones going to class thar as a crime

MNHQ have now posted in the other thread about this. Essentially saying they're in contact with the police and will be in touch with those who reported.

It sounds like @MNHQ's lack of infrastructure and planning to prevent this happening has put you in this awful position, @ANightwatcher. There also seems to be a worrying lack of training if a member of night watch thought that asking MNers to share links was an appropriate or safe way of dealing with this.

Thanks to you protecting other users and the site, this could have been far worse. Thank you for everything you have done.

I can say categorically you will not face any issues legally - you have done all you can to prevent further harm.

If you have seen these images you may wish to consider counselling. Some people may find they end up with PTSD or insomnia from such exposure to distressing CSA images, and by processing it now and properly - please take it seriously. It can take a long to recover from something like this.

Asking people to post links to the threads was wrong. You’ve explained why you did it, fine, but it was wrong. But it’s not your fault. It’s clearly a sign that mumsnet have not given training on this, don’t have policy and guidance in place, don’t have a paid employee available as an emergency contact who can shut the site down, don’t have even the most basic AI photo checking software available and don’t even have anyone with the ability to turn off the option to post photos available.
You did the best you could under difficult circumstances with little to no support available from mumsnet, who are ultimately responsible. But, when mistakes are made they do need to be acknowledged. No one should be defending the request to share the links. That was a mistake.

That's actually shocking that they've not removed that function isn't it it's not that early! 😡
