Hating the "Load older posts" feature

No one asked for it, and if they did, this isn't what they want.

There isn't enough space in this box to explain how incredibly poor it is.

Just to add evidence to my hatred of this new feature - on this thread, only 23 posts but when I click on the thread I'm shown one post. Just one. And have to click to load the older ones. Completely pointless

Unless I am wrong, I am guessing this feature has broken the "x new posts" button that used to appear when a loaded thread was updated. A feature which was far more useful than this "load older posts" nonsense that someone dreamt up

I've come home after a hard day, sat down and to my absolute horror Mumsnet seems to have been messed about with.

I like the whole thread to load. I am happy to wait the 3 or 4 seconds it might take. Now, I can't easily find my place, the multiple loading is wasting my time.

I've had to change my settings to pages.

Why oh why did you have to fix a problem nobody had?

Awrite · 21/11/2024 17:37

Grecianrainbow · 21/11/2024 17:13

I hate it. Especially on my watched threads- it doesn’t go to the last post read anymore!

It does if you change your settings to pages. Not ideal but the lesser of two evils.

LoveIsLikeAFartIfYouHaveToPushItsUsuallyShit · 21/11/2024 17:38

Please get rid of it or start go fund me for anger management for us

thats similar with mine, put it to 100 comments page and it seems ok so far

DreamyDreamy · 21/11/2024 17:39

Oh no that is awful!

After8Mints · 21/11/2024 17:39

this feature is a good example of doing x rather than asking users if they want the feature

MuttsNutts · 21/11/2024 17:45

Awful feature.

And my bookmarks have stopped working so assume the two are linked.

Not impressed.

We have a golden rule in grown up IT (not the kids stuff these app-types think they are doing).

"Just because you can, doesn't mean you should".

It's why most companies that want to stay afloat don't sell a solar powered whoopee cushion.

I am going to bet evens that until you mentioned it, MNHQ weren't aware.

I will also bet evens that they don't know how to reverse this.

Sorry to agree, but it really is awful. Just opened a long thread, thought I could bypass the endless ‘load more posts’ by clicking the ‘bottom’ button but it’s just taken me down the page not the end of the thread. Thought the whole point of having the option to see the entire thread or just by pages was to avoid constantly clicking to the next bit?

ImaginaryHorse · 21/11/2024 18:19

And now some posts are randomly appearing in smaller type? Not much smaller, but enough for my eyes to struggle a bit with it! Anyone else noticed that?

HaddawayAndShite · 21/11/2024 18:32

What gets me is they can't even get a solid foundation of decent site building code yet fuck around with shit that no one asks for and makes the site worse. It's like they're intentionally trying to drive people away.

Edited

If you look carefully you'll see that these two posts are in different sized type.

Playing absolute havoc with the "see next" function too. How bloody stupid.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/11/2024 18:51

It's a horrid feature. It's so annoying.

I didn't realise it's doing it on all threads as standard, I thought it was only when you do the 'see next' on the OPs posts as that was where I've encountered it today.

Even there it's bloody annoying, as you see OP tag someone and you can't scroll up to find what they're talking about! You hit the button and it jumps up and you lose your place.

I've chosen to show all posts because thats what I want to see! It stops me getting a deletion message before I've read everything for a start! My Internet is practically steam driven and I've never had a problem with slow loading.

Classic case of solving a problem that doesn't exist.

Wherehavetheteaspoonsgone · 21/11/2024 18:56

I thought it was a fault with my browser. It didn't occur to me this was a deliberate new feature. Please remove it or change to an opt in only!

endofthelinefinally · 21/11/2024 19:00

What on earth is this new feature? Loading older posts, loading newer posts? It just ends up with a complete mishmash of posts, half in the wrong order and some not appearing on the thread at all. What a mess. It is making threads impossible to follow. Horrible.

Yep it's absolute garbage and completely unnecessary - what on earth was the rationale?

Sethera · 21/11/2024 19:15

I have my threads flipped by default, but if I add a new post myself, it now unflips them Angry

ImaginaryHorse · 21/11/2024 19:20

Oh god @KatyMumsnet @LilyMumsnet please make it stop or at least give us the option to turn it off.

Now when I open a thread from "threads I'm on" it only shows me the very last post. If I want to see more, I have to click "see older posts" and then it scoots me waaaaay up thread and I have to scroll down looking for where I was 😤

Bonbon21 · 21/11/2024 19:26

Bottom line... this pisses me off so much I will just stop using Mumsnet... your choice folks!
