Do you use it? If you do - how do you find it? What works, what doesn't ? Is there anything (here we go, nice ham blah blah) you like us to add/ we could do to make it better?

Thanks,
MNHQ

ps if you haven't used it yet here are some tips on getting started

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 24/04/2008 10:11

can I have a blow-by-blow account of the stockport meet up so I can get all nostalgic for the old town?

MerlinsBeard · 24/04/2008 10:13

squonk, you should come back specially...we will take to the hat musuem (oooh thrill!) and the erm...viaduct and mersey square and erm erm...surely we have something else......nope

DrScaredOfNorks · 24/04/2008 10:15

ooh you know who I am Went all wibbly last night and wasn't sure if it was me or you.

I want to come to a Stockport meet to coo over babymonster I have just realised that me n Psycho never sent our thing How big is he now?

nippersnappers · 24/04/2008 10:17

I've used the Edinburgh local board a few times but had no response to my threads at all.

From a different point of view I have a paid for advert on the Edinburgh local too, and have had 1 click in 3 months, so I would say it isn't working. A shame cos I had such high hopes.

As everyone else has said I think it needs to appear in active convos.

funnypeculiar · 24/04/2008 10:18

Um, I only go on it to enter competitions. I don't find listings to be especially up to date (my local page is suggesting I go to a halowe'en party )
I hadn't realised there was all this meet someone stuff.

That's not what mn is about for me, but I can imagine finding it useful if I was new to an area. Maybe.

Sorry

PinkTulips · 24/04/2008 10:21

the irish girls didn't use our local board all 9 months i was gone!

i liked it as it was nice to have a chat with some irish women but there are very few of us.

i did a few listings but tbh we all live so far away from each other i didn't see much point in listing things most of them would never be in the area for.

our's used to appear in active convos if you were registered, do they not now?

MerlinsBeard · 24/04/2008 10:39

just been on...the only recent thing is an ad for part time jobs (should that have been paid for?)

There are 3 tsarinas, only 1 of which is on teh local mums list. 1 is not even in Stockport and i haven;t "seen" them around anywhere before. (of course, thats not to mean they don't post)

isaidno · 24/04/2008 10:39

Whenever I look at it the chat threads all seem out of date / very sparse.

Things to do part is quite good.

happystory · 24/04/2008 10:40

Bit disappointed in it TBH. Mine's full of childminder adverts

Sunshinemummy · 24/04/2008 11:07

I've used it a few times and found it helpful for asking local questions re. services available but don't look at it regularly.

fircone · 24/04/2008 11:13

a) I think most people like to remain anonymous

b) when someone suggested a meet-up, it turned out they were actually seeking sponsorship and fundraising for one of those cycle rides in Uruguay thingies. She wanted everyone to pay £X for a restaurant meal, and she would take a cut. Ahem.

DrScaredOfNorks · 24/04/2008 11:16

if we do meetups, we do it via the meetup board, not mn local

MamaG · 24/04/2008 11:48

I wandered on to it once, thought it was crap and never went back

tigana · 24/04/2008 12:06

I don't use it.
I have pondered 'allowing' my name to show as living in that area ( if someone searched my name on messages they would know anyway) but there is something about declaring "I live here"...)
Apparently there are about 3 MNers in my area - none of whom I have 'seen' about on MN much( but then I do MN less that I would like to!!)

To add a review you sort of have to add too much informtaion - I can't recall the exact address/number/website of a place I have been to and you end up havingto google it yourself in order to review it...so why can't we jsut say " place is nice/rubbish and here is why"?
Like the idea of being able to 'opt in' to your local active convos...

Twinkie1 · 24/04/2008 12:34

Us Colchester and surrounding area girls post on our local one and we arrange meet ups on it - think it is very good although I do forget to check it sometimes so maybe better if it came up in active convos.

Fullmoonfiend · 24/04/2008 12:41

I can't rememeber how to get in to edit ours

Agree, people should be encouraged to add comments about their experiences of local stuff. Also I find it frustrating that I consider anywhere within a 20 mile radius as 'local' but mumsnet local is too parochial...in that eg If I live in York but want to find out what's happening in say, Leeds, I have to swap to Leeds site, which doesn't come up automatically

Plus, I like to change my name for local stuff but then forget then get all worried as it's too complicated being too many different people

claireybee · 24/04/2008 13:15

I have never used it. In fact I am not sure I knew it existed until now...

MrsMattie · 24/04/2008 13:46

Nobody ever uses my one. It's a shame.

Walnutshell · 24/04/2008 13:53

Mine is like a graveyard. I wish I hadn't posted on it as now if anyone local who I know visits they will prob be able to identify my nickname. Cringe.

Then again, have hardly come across anyone here who's even heard of MN . Unless they are all pretending.

QuinnMallory · 24/04/2008 13:54

There isn't much of interest or use to me on the MN local site. I'd like to find more info about toddler groups, classes, places to go, etc, for parents and children, or parents only. At the moment, there's very little info of this kind, even less of it is advance info, allowing you to plan future events. As a result, I don't look at the local site that often anymore.

collision · 24/04/2008 14:33

Never use it!

bogie · 24/04/2008 14:43

Always very quiet on there imo

FunkyGlassSlipper · 24/04/2008 15:36

Quiet, hard to navigate.

Meet a mum would be nice but needs to be on main boards otherwise no-one sees it.
