Request for a board for those gaining a First class degree

Hi Mumsnet

Following on from the high earner's board request...

I’d like to propose a new message board dedicated to those of us who have achieved the elusive first-class degree. We need a place to gather and share our tales of academic glory and partake in intelligent conversation without having to wade through threads created by the undereducated.

i am willing to slum it with the non Oxbridge RG universities, but do draw the line at ex-polys. as if you can compare a 1st from Nottingham Trent with one from Cambridge.

SnowFrogJelly · 08/10/2024 21:56

What about a 2:1 and an MA?!

gamerchick · 08/10/2024 22:02

Stop bugging the bosses man, there's be a naughty corner at this rate.Grin

OnTheBoardwalk · 08/10/2024 22:02

Do I need evidence? I've still got my GCSE certificates from 30 odd years ago. Do they count as evidence on my qualifications?

Andoutcomethewolves · 08/10/2024 22:07

Hold on. Only 5% of us got a first at my (RG) university (obvs including me).I dont want to mix with the plebs who got firsts along with half their intake at some ex poly.

Did you get a distinction in the MA?

And they all go to the same competitive schools on scholarship - which means we must all know each other!!

Oh, how ARE you? Not seen you at the gate in ages! No doubt see you at the Michaelmas fundraiser (remember Boden only for us ladies).

Flapearedknave · 08/10/2024 20:05

I got a 2:1 at undergraduate and a first at post-grad, where do I go 😥

Do you mean a Distinction? Or was it a four-year course leading to a Master's?

Also need a thread for Southerners (no great unwashed people from further North)

So long as it excludes Wales. Imagine having to converse with someone from Merthyr 😱

Incakewetrust · 08/10/2024 22:16

Can I join? I'm dead clever me! I went to school once. It was a good day

itsginoclocksomewhere · 08/10/2024 22:17

Can I identify as having a first from Oxford? Does it have to be in any particular subject?

wheretoyougonow · 08/10/2024 22:21

I have a 25 meter swimming certificate and have been to Oxford city. Please can I be accepted?

Andoutcomethewolves · 08/10/2024 22:23

Does a two week postgrad certificate at Oxford count? Actually I'm not sure I want to join the Oxbridge gang, most of them I've worked with have been a bit dickish or a bit dull/odd.

I think maybe separate boards for Oxbridge, RG and the rest? I suppose the likes of Bath can join RG (begrudgingly)

Iamacatslave · 08/10/2024 22:25

I’ve got a City and Guilds certificate 😐

Calmontheoutsider · 08/10/2024 22:35

Russell Group only.

Surely St Andrews is allowed too?

(I have my Cycling Proficiency Certificate too if that helps at all..)

Bit of deja vu there. Thought I'd went back in time to the moldies 😂 simpler days 😆

You are naughty! 😁😁
Moldies / Mouldies…
Those were the days eh?

LegoTherapy · 08/10/2024 22:47

Never mind education, what about a board for the Massive Salad Eaters? That could be taken two ways though. Are the salads massive, or the eaters? Tricky.

ReadWithScepticism · 08/10/2024 22:56

I made my own spoon at a spoon carving workshop. I would love to have a board where I can chat about making my own spoon with other people who have made their own spoon -- and without having to put up with snippy jealous posts from people who haven't made their own spoon .

It was definitely a first class spoon, in case that is relevant.

Babadookinthewardrobe · 08/10/2024 22:59

I’d love to chat spoons with you @ReadWithScepticism. Unfortunately I went a bit wrong in the workshop so mine ended up more like a spork so I can’t join your board. I’ll have to go to the disappointing sporks board.

GesmereldaWeatherwax · 08/10/2024 23:03

Ooh what about if I got a 2-1 at an RG (not Oxbridge sorry) but a first at a non RG (not polytechnic)?

MotherofPearl · 08/10/2024 23:09

I think ideally everyone should ask @MNHQ for their own specific board so that nobody ever has to engage with anyone who isn't exactly like them ever again.

Sounds fun for a chat forum.

Perhaps, then, we should have a general cutlery board, so as not to be too niche.

We could still have specialist sub-boards for each type of cutlery (knives, forks, spoons, sporks, etc) if we needed to drill down into more technical conversations.)

You are naughty @TheSoloPenalty .

But THIS is why MNers are so funny.
Not everyone is a viper.
