You don't have to quote the whole original post.

I have just opened a thread where the first reply quotes the whole of the lengthy OP. I can understand if you think you have to quote it to refer back to but come on, not when you're the first reply and really not ever, it is literally there at the top of each page. What is even more ridiculous is when it is quoted and the reply is one word or one sentence.

But you can if you want to and these threads about quotes are so boring 😑

Don't read them then, the title was self-explanatory.

Can some of you really not access the mobile site? (Not the app, not the desktop.)

I access MN exclusively on my phone - and the mobile site plus an add blocker means I never encounter most of the problems some posters do. 1000 posts all on one page, different colours for my posts and for the OP’s posts. Newest post at the bottom but eager new phone races straight to my bookmark on any thread. Easy to C&P and to insert links or photos, or make a swift edit.

(Not smug, rest of life is currently crap, but MN works beautifully for me at the moment. Grin)

I don't even have an ad blocker, or a particularly new phone and it's fine.

BlanklyMyDear · 25/06/2024 12:00

The adverts used to drive me 🤬🤬🤬

True you don’t need a new phone to use MN - but a 950 odd posts Archers thread taking ages to load is generally a prompt for me to start thinking about an upgrade.

It’s annoying because you read the OP, scroll down to read replies and what are you faced with? The bloody whole OP again.

There’s NO need to quote the OP. Especially on the first page. You can pretty much guarantee that the original post is the one we’ve all fucking read.

The quote function is a wonderful addition to MN. But it really needs to be disabled for the OP.

I do this when I'm on the app.

The wonky version of the app that is on my phone doesn't allow me to leave the posting box without losing everything I post.

So if I want to refer to a few details, what am I supposed to do - screenshot it first, train myself to have a photographic memory, take down the OP in longhand?

Do you have the 'Clear quote' button on the app? (I don't use the app, it's crap, so I genuinely don't know.) I have a shocking memory but I'm also someone who finds the OP being quoted irritating, so I sometimes add the quote, compose my reply while it's right there to refer to, and then click 'Clear quote' before posting. Keeps your reply but removes the OP.

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things 🙄

This

It's nowhere near as annoying as the flashing banner ads

For the love of god and Margaret will posters quit with quoting the whole post in the first reply. It’s idiocy

someone was on here just the other day asking Mumsnet to make it impossible.

I'm pretty sure I posted here a while ago asking if quoted posts could be truncated (like they are now for 2nd and subsequent pages)

Maybe I dreamt it?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 09/07/2024 17:37

It's always some idiot who quotes a lengthy post and just puts "This" or "Exactly This"

Bore off
