You don't have to quote the whole original post.

I have just opened a thread where the first reply quotes the whole of the lengthy OP. I can understand if you think you have to quote it to refer back to but come on, not when you're the first reply and really not ever, it is literally there at the top of each page. What is even more ridiculous is when it is quoted and the reply is one word or one sentence.

Whatever has happened to make you like this@letsallmeetupinthehyear2000 I hope you get over it.

I was just about to ask you the same question …

@DumbassHamsterSitterPerson copy and paste doesn't work on the app.
It just looks the same as the answer.
You can put quote marks but it doesn't stand out.

Can you not bold/italic on the app?

I doubt it. Mine is a reasonable suggestion. You're just trying to wind people up for your own reasons. Failing by the way.

Oh I think I’m doing ok - thanks

wheretoyougonow · 24/06/2024 20:10

I completely agree. It's so annoying to have to keep scrolling to actual find out what their comment actually is.
Can we request a Mumsnet virtual jail for repeat offenders? Oh and we can include those who come onto a thread to imply that you have nothing better to think about along with an eye roll emoji.....

BirthdayRainbow · 24/06/2024 20:12

Glad to hear it @letsallmeetupinthehyear2000 .

Yeah, hate that. I've enough to do without seeing the same thing twice (or more) when there's no need
😡

TikiTikiBoo · 24/06/2024 19:10

They need to make the quote editable so people can delete the bits they aren't replying to.

Every other site lets you do that.

@TikiTikiBoo

Definitely!!

but yes, quoting the OP's post, it's so annoying, especially when they post something like

'YANBU

🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

MoonWoman69 · 24/06/2024 20:49

Can we also have it forced upon people, when they ask AIBU, to actually use the function?! The amount of people that ask in a post but don't use the AIBU voting thing astounds me! I'm also with you OP, the full quote repost drives me mad!

Sadly the function doesn't work in the app which is why I think there are so many posts that don't use voting

Voting can only be enabled on the browser. I only use the ios app so can never get the voting turned on

Annoying!

And I totally agree with the OP on quoting original post!

MoonWoman69 · 24/06/2024 20:52

Oh! It works on my mobile... Well then people need to stop asking AIBU if they can't access the voting function! 🤣🤣🤣

BirthdayRainbow · 24/06/2024 21:04

It would be good if people used the right topics as well. So many people use AIBU for "traffic" so it's become a self fulfilling situation.

Do we really need another thread about this?

HappiestSleeping · 24/06/2024 21:14

I often just push the quote button, and then highlight the bits I'm responding to. Then it alerts the person you are responding to. I find it easier this way.

I have alerts turned off unless I am quoted or mentioned, so if anyone replies to me in any other way, chances are, I won't see it. I sort of thought that most regular posters would do this also in order to reduce the number of notifications.

Edited

I didn't know there was another thread. Clearly.

Multiple ones with the same minority of people complaining at the effort they need to make to scroll past.

The vast majority of posters don't care.

BirthdayRainbow · 24/06/2024 21:56

So sneery, there's no need. If I had noticed another thread I wouldn't have posted a new one. I know how some mumsnetters can't cope with that.

I'm not being sneery, I'm pointing out that there have been other threads and that the vast majority don't care.

i mean, you've been sneery about people who quote the op 🤷🏻‍♀️

mathanxiety · 24/06/2024 22:02

I do this when I'm on the app.

The wonky version of the app that is on my phone doesn't allow me to leave the posting box without losing everything I post.

So if I want to refer to a few details, what am I supposed to do - screenshot it first, train myself to have a photographic memory, take down the OP in longhand?

Yes to this.

If I want to quote something on the app I have to memorise it and retype it.
Nuts to that.

Also, bolding doesn't stand out on my PC version of MN. Italics do.

I also can't bookmark or send PMs on the app. There are possibly as many versions of MN as there are users.

Yes, or they may have enough experience of the many variations of MN to figure out there may well be issues with whatever version a poster is using.

mathanxiety · 24/06/2024 22:15

BirthdayRainbow · 24/06/2024 19:13

I did well to get seven minutes of people agreeing.

Obviously it doesn't matter in the great scheme of things but you could say that about anything and everything. But we all do things and don't so things so they make life better, easier, nicer, etc.

Indeed, and that's why I quote when I'm on the app.

TheShellBeach · 24/06/2024 23:01

But that is when you're quoting someone else's response to the OP.
That isn't the same as just writing your comment on what the original post says.

Why do you use the app? All I see are the things it doesn't do which raises the question of it what way is it better than the nmobile site?
