App causing phone to overheat

Hi @MumsnetHQ

Since yesterday the app is causing my phone to overheat.

App is slow to load, typing lags and my phone gets very hot.

I've run this app on my phone for ages. This started yesterday. It's only the Mumsnet app that is doing this.

Can someone look into it please? Thanks.

Yes me too, and chomping through battery at a rate of knots

amylou8 · 24/02/2024 10:12

Mine started doing this yesterday on my iPhone. Seems fine in the iPad.

Autumnleaves27 · 24/02/2024 10:22

This is also happening for me today. Battery has just drained from 100% to 45% in minutes!

Tallisker · 24/02/2024 11:16

I fear it's damaging my phone.

My phone is also overheating and draining battery extremely fast when I use mumsnet app. Started yesterday. It makes my phone very laggy too when I'm trying to type a reply. I gave up yesterday a few times.

I phone 14 latest iOS and latest updated MN app.

Same here, iPhone 14. Stated noticing it the last couple of days.

Mine has been ok for ages and this afternoon started playing up again - very hot, not loading threads quickly.

@LilyMumsnet any updates?

OchonAgusOchonOh · 25/02/2024 17:02

It's not just the app. I use the website on my phone and it is a massive battery guzzler. It's been like this for a while now

lilao · 25/02/2024 17:16

I thought it was just me! My phone is so hot I can barely touch it and Mumsnet has used 55% of my battery so far today

BeckyAMumsnet · 26/02/2024 10:48

Hi all - thanks to all who shared screenshots. For reference, it's useful for us to see: "Battery usage by app" and "Activity usage by app" from the same device.

Please also go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Analytics & Improvements -> Analytics Data and see if Mumsnet is listed.

If your device has recently had an iOS update, then there will also be a lot of background activity for a few days that can drain your battery faster.

This is something we've been unable to replicate on our side but we are continuing to investigate the issue. Any of the above info you're able to share with us is helpful. Thank you.

Seems to have settled again now @BeckyAMumsnet - I'd not realised it could be to do wit the iOS update!

chimichangaz · 26/02/2024 13:47

For me, the latest iOS will be installed later so that hasn't been a recent factor. However today my phone has been behaving itself unlike yesterday!

Been on my phone a lot yesterday and today as I'm off work poorly so maybe just noticing it more.

Will see how it is when the latest update installs.

Sick0fThisShit · 26/02/2024 23:26

The latest update hasn't been installed in mine yet either, that update only appeared for me after.

In the 25th when I had the problems there's about five entries under settings data analytics a discwrite and then a few wakeups.

I haven't really used mumsnet much since as I was wirried about how hot it was getting but it seems ok today.

Happening to me too. the site is becoming unusable what with this and massive ads obscuring the whole page on iPad.
