App causing phone to overheat

Hi @MumsnetHQ

Since yesterday the app is causing my phone to overheat.

App is slow to load, typing lags and my phone gets very hot.

I've run this app on my phone for ages. This started yesterday. It's only the Mumsnet app that is doing this.

Can someone look into it please? Thanks.

Yes, this is a known issue reported to MN weeks ago.

I'm continuing to have this problem on occasion.

This has been going on for a long time with no solution. I would assume since the announcement that the app is being redeveloped there is little chance of the existing app issues being fixed.

Same here. It sorted itself out for a few weeks and is now worse than ever.

Slow typing, jumpy scrolling and uses so much battery.

I've only seen the "new app being developed" message on site stuff in response to the endless issues with the app. No idea if there is a timeline for it (although a decent test plan would be nice).

I've really noticed this since updating to iOS 17.1.1. Phone really overheats, battery usage is significant, lagging typing.

Can Mumsnet provide any update on when it might get resolved please? (Don't know how to tag them in this!)

Oh I wondered what this was! My phone is getting very hot since the iOS update, I'm always on MN on it, I didn't connect the two?

Thanks for flagging this.

Please could we ask that you uninstall your apps? This will clear any memory saved. It will also mean that you're running the latest version when you re-download. After that, can you let us know if the issue resolves or stays the same?

Hi @chimichangaz and others. If you've uninstalled the app and still having the overheating problem, could we ask you to share your battery usage and activity pages with us, as in the screenshots below?

And then could you also go to:
Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Analytics & Improvements -> Analytics Data and see if Mumsnet is listed in there please?

Why do people use the app? You could just access mn through a browser. Is there any benefit to the app?
I've never used it because it always seems to be having/causing problems

Here's mine and yes Mumsnet appears 6 times in the analytics thingie.

Please fix this Mumsnet! I feel like I'm going to have some sort of fire. My phone gets so hot and the battery dies even when plugged in to charge.
