So, this just happened

The joke being, that at the end of the ad, it said scroll for the rest of the content, but that was it. That was the entire content.

I've just had the family wealth one a few seconds ago. Using Chrome on an imac. Nothing visible to cancel it either.

Just happened again on this thread, but when I scrolled down it showed the header for a thread about a mum's cat that I haven't been on. I have a screenshot but add image has now stopped working.

Iforgotmyusernameagainandagain · 28/09/2023 02:19

had to do a new post.

my last image was to demonstrate that it says scroll to continue viewing content but doesnt actually let you.

Edit: just realised mine's exactly the same as @Gingernaut

MagentaRocks · 28/09/2023 02:33

Happening to me too.

gazpachosoupday · 28/09/2023 02:41

Exactly the same as above, on this thread. I am on windows on a laptop

But its happened on 3 or 4 threads now

daisychain01 · 28/09/2023 06:10

This has happened on and off for months - last time was just now.

what would possess an advertiser to create something that's so annoying and frustrating that blocks your entire screen with a big black curtain across and a scroll arrow, none of which you can get rid of. Baffling... I'd boycott any product deliberately on that basis alone.

ohdamnitjanet · 28/09/2023 06:20

Me too!

ElBandito · 28/09/2023 07:16

Getting exactly the same problem as everyone else

CharlotteBog · 28/09/2023 07:19

Brave is an ad free browser.
I use it only for MN.
It's made so much difference.

PhilMitchellsleatherbomber · 28/09/2023 15:58

its still happening, I have to close down mumsnet to get rid of it, it’s getting ridiculous, is anyone doing anything about it??

Does it still work after the new announcement about adblockers?

Yes, I'm on Brave right now. I haven't seen an announcement about ad blockers; I'll have to have a look.
I've used Brave for a couple of years now.

FiveShelties · 28/09/2023 22:47

Thank you @CharlotteBog

daisychain01 · 29/09/2023 04:27

Come on MNHQ, this has to be something you can resolve. It's hideous.

impossible to replicate, it's deliberately random, just to be even more frustrating. It literally locks itself in place on your screen, telling you to Scroll up for content, but it doesn't do anything when you scroll up. I can't even see what the point of it is.

Its a very cunning advertising campaign for Brave and Ghostery browsers on mobile devices :-)

I don't have a problem with ads on the MN App on my iPhone, it's just on the desktop, and that's where I use Brave. It's not my browser of choice, so I use it just for MN, which seems to be the only service to have so many problems.

I don't have any problems on my tablet, only on laptop.

Do you have an alternative?

Browse and Ghostery are available for desktop as well - I misread the PP. I use Ghostery into restrict mode for sites having a bonkers moment with adverts but Brave works fine as well.

Thanks @C8H10N4O2

JoMumsnet · 29/09/2023 10:36

Thanks very much for providing this info, @WiddlinDiddlin - we've now blocked this advertiser, so if you (and anyone else who's been affected by this particular ad) could try clearing your cache, you should be okay again.

Thanks for bearing with us. And if there are any other specific ads which keep cropping up and taking over the screen, please post the details and URL here.

Why don't MN do their own internal testing rather than relying on MN users to report problems and then fixing them?
