Mumsnet Books - more on the way

A fair few of you have suggested over the last little while that we ought to think about doing some more Mumsnet books and the good news is that indeed we are. We've signed a deal with Bloomsbury to do six in fact - the first of which is The Mumsnet Guide to Toddlers, due out in April 09. And what's more it's being put together by our very own Morningpaper. So irony of ironies - the Mumsnetter who concocted the "Rockets over Lebanon" remark that so irked a certain someone is now writing parenting books. Oh what fun .

Anyway we'll keep you posted with further developments titles etc but for now, as ever, thanks for your input.

The other titles are babies, pregnancy and food/recipes with 2 more tbc. Bloomsbury seem to have illustrator and copy editors sorted but will let you know if we need any input .

have a look see

MerlinsBeard · 01/03/2008 21:20

can you put a baby on the front playing with a rocket?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2008 21:21

Am thinking that an awful lot about b/feeding would be good.

In fact a whole bookworth..... what do you think? I know a few folk who'd be great at putting it together....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2008 21:22

Actually, make that infant feeding.

0-2 years or something

marina · 01/03/2008 21:26

There is a huge gap in the market for books on parenting older children IMO

Toddlers: A Guide

Stick with it, it doesn't last. Thankfully.

The End

do we have to start sucking up now?

Congrats MP

VeniVidiVickiQV · 01/03/2008 21:32

OO - I may have to kill you for saying that...........

Will one book be called "Am I being unreasonable? Mumsnet's guide to being a parent of ......."

DontCallMeBaby · 01/03/2008 21:32

DD had a page and a half of Toddler Taming for a bedtime story* tonight, I would love to be able to read her some MorningPaper/Mumsnet's finest for bedtime instead!

  • she wanted it, she likes the cartoons
elkiedee · 01/03/2008 21:37

Wonderful news, I discovered mumsnet through the mumsnet guide to pregnancy - when I realised I was pregnant for the first time, I went to Borders after work and checked out all the pregnancy books to decide what I wanted.

DS will be almost 2 when the toddler book comes out, so I hope it meets the deadline.

Miaou · 01/03/2008 21:39

Oh, I have to make sure I get into one of these, haven't made it into the others (obviously wasn't witty enough )

Kindersurpise · 01/03/2008 21:42

Fab, just what we need. Well done, MP.

We will feed you chocolate and G&Ts to help you meet your deadline.

How about the previously discussed Special Needs-related book? It was Fio's idea I think.. It's much needed in the SN world, about how it really is.. how to get from day to day, why it's "ok" to feel "not ok" about so many get from day to things.. how to live with the grief of having an entirely different child to the one you were expecting and learn to enjoy him/her.. permission to throw out the milestone charts.. how to deal with the ignorance of people in general, how to deal with schools and fight the red tape and how to "pick your battles" (of which there will be many!).. how to get by on no sleep for the rest of your life (!), how to deal with challenging behaviour/violence, how to find time for your other children, how to keep a once-happy marriage functional under all the above circumstances..

God we need this book!! And so will many parents to come. I'm faily sure it doesn't already exist..

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 03/03/2008 00:24

(sorry, I'm talking rubbish.. want to zzzz.. was meaning to say "how to get from day to day" and "how it's ok to feel not-ok... " etc... )

MAMAZON · 03/03/2008 00:33

great idea shiney - anything that gets away from that bloody "living in Amsterdam" or whatever it is.

GillianMcPoo · 03/03/2008 00:34

I didn't think that Desi.. I am paranoid it's true, but not at this time of night when normal people are in bed

[have spent last 2 weeks thinking up a namechange, due to there being dozens of Shinys now and people keep thinking they're me.. trying out this one ]

GillianMcPoo · 03/03/2008 00:35

Not my idea at all Mamazon think it was Fio's.. will have to find thread.. those ideas I just rattled off all relate directly to me however.. and lots of others I'm sure!

MAMAZON · 03/03/2008 00:36

i like it, though by tomorrow i will be wondering "which of my fave Mners is McPoo again? "

fairyfly · 03/03/2008 00:37

Why don't you do an actual witty funny book, full of bitterness and nonsense and dryness.

I'd buy that.

MAMAZON · 03/03/2008 00:37

and as you know McshinyPoo i have very similar experiances and could have written those subject matters also.

think it would be a fabbo idea, whoever came up with it.

GillianMcPoo · 03/03/2008 00:38

Give over, I am so NOT "one of your fave Mners" surely! [gulp] [courts confirmation of unexpected compliment]
