Mumsnet Books - more on the way

A fair few of you have suggested over the last little while that we ought to think about doing some more Mumsnet books and the good news is that indeed we are. We've signed a deal with Bloomsbury to do six in fact - the first of which is The Mumsnet Guide to Toddlers, due out in April 09. And what's more it's being put together by our very own Morningpaper. So irony of ironies - the Mumsnetter who concocted the "Rockets over Lebanon" remark that so irked a certain someone is now writing parenting books. Oh what fun .

Anyway we'll keep you posted with further developments titles etc but for now, as ever, thanks for your input.

I'm sure you need a Dragon to see off these squabbling editors with a plume of fire and a scorched bottom. I'm certain Bloomsbury don't have one of those on their staff.

Threadworm · 03/03/2008 10:35

They'll just use one of JK Rowling's old dragons. There are still loads hanging around the office.

SoupDragon · 03/03/2008 10:35

No, they want too great a salary now what with being famous and all that.

Boco · 03/03/2008 10:36

I could illustrate it! You don't want a Bloomsbury arranged one, you want ME!

Hijack, apologies.

Policywonk, do you feel like answering a copyediting question? I've got a rather touchy author who has used epigraphs quite extensively at chapter heads and a-heads. Sometimes he makes references to these extracts in the text, which is strictly speaking a no-no for excerpts treated as epigraphs.

It would look odd to code some of these excerpts as epigraphs, and some as extracts (depending on whether or not they are discussed in the text).

Would you plough ahead and treat them all as epigraphs, despite the violation of the no-discussion rule? That's what I'm planning to do.

Great news, good for you MP

Another vote for keeping it in-house and tapping the extensive talents of mners.

(whilst not actually offering any talent myself you understand)

PeatBog · 03/03/2008 11:02

Threadworm, fellow copyeditor here. When you say 'makes references to', he quotes bits of them again? or the whole thing again? or just says, 'when x says y (above) ...'?

Threadworm · 03/03/2008 11:06

Thanks peatbog. The latter.
