'Goady and abusive' posts

I received an email from ' Mumsnet HQ' today warning me that several of my posts had had to be deleted recently because I was posting in an abusive and goady fashion. This is absolutely not true. The only post of mine recently that's been deleted was on a thread that was deleted, and it was not in itself abusive or goady. I'm assuming this was an automated send - but it was upsetting and a little worrying to receive. Could someone at MNHQ please explain what's going on, and perhaps apologise?

Not sure this thread is doing you any favours. Hth

Agreed. I wish the OP would….. stop embarassing themself.

Is anyone on this thread actually human- this doesn’t seem goady ( spell check really hates that word) or a personal attack tbf

That thread was full of posters expressing profoundly unpleasant opinions about human beings they had never met. Context. It's a thing.

I'm sorry, I misread your post - thank you

But that's what you're doing, too. You're calling people that you've never met 'cunts', which is a profoundly unpleasant opinion about human beings you've never met. And it's worse in a way, because the people you're calling names will actually see it.

multivac · 28/06/2023 22:17

Herself. But I'm not remotely embarrassed, thanks.

Apparently you can’t tell sometimes fuck off anymore.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 28/06/2023 22:23

To be fair I called someone a cunt once and MN deleted my account. I had to email them and ask for it back. (I did say "yes I'll get deleted for this, no I don't care", but I meant that comment not my whole account.)

I did apologise to MN for my manners and have made a point of ignoring the poster I said it to since. I'm also conscious of not letting someone upset me that much again, especially as I'd never say that IRL!

Have you been on Mumsnet for long...?

But people are usually referring to third parties, not the people they are talking to.

It's one thing to say the random parked on the pavement is a count, quite another to address someone as one!

NadjaCravensworth1 · 28/06/2023 22:30

You are free to say whatever you want but Mumsnet is a company with guidelines who can decide what they want on their site. I'm sure there are other sites you can go on if you want to comment with zero restrictions.

Or maybe just don't call anyone a cunt.

Terryer · 28/06/2023 22:34

I called someone a cunt once and got deleted. Fair enough. I think I'd Had Wine and was easily riled.

multivac · 28/06/2023 22:45

I reckon the 'bunch of cunts' comments was made last year some time, going from my posting history. And It was definitely referring to some bloody awful opinions. I'm clearly a massive danger to the finely balanced Mumsnet community!

Yeah op, your case isn't standing up.

I saw your one on the Consultant post earlier, not great and did feel you were attacking op.

The other examples are worse imo.
🤷🏼‍♀️

I was defending the op, ffs. I was challenging the person who suggested that, as a mere teacher, she shouldn't question consultants. Please don't rewrite history, especially now the thread has been deleted.

It's a misogynist swearword. I'd use something more neutral.

Whereas as a feminist, I reclaim it. Both stances are valid.

You’re really not helping yourself with this thread OP. Maybe just don’t call other posters ‘counts’ and it’ll all work out.

or reply to MNHQ’s emails. They will discuss stuff with you.

Yarnysaura · 28/06/2023 23:00

It's been a very long time since you could call a cunt a cunt on here.

I'm doing both of those, thanks. As I say, I referred to a bunch of people expressing cunty (which to me, means cruel, harsh, entitled) opinions as 'a bunch of cunts' sometime last year. I've troubled the MN algorithms very little since. Unlike many others.

If you're reclaiming it shouldn't it be to use positively? I've not heard of a slur being reclaimed negatively before.

Apricotflanday · 28/06/2023 23:18

Yes, it should probably be used self-referentially or positively, to be reclaimed. :)

I call a spade a spade too, OP, so I sympathise, but it's their site, their rules, and, well, calling people names IS abusive whether deserved or not.

This

Come on... 2 posts calling people the C word etc and you think that's not offensive??

OdeToBarney · 28/06/2023 23:24

swanling · 28/06/2023 21:01

I didn't see the thread, but it's always slightly puzzled me that "ODFOD" usually seems to be allowed to stand but "fuck off" gets deleted as a personal attack. It's the same message.

I got deleted for an "ODFOD" once 🤷‍♀️ I'm never quite sure what the rules are really.

LochnessMonsieur · 28/06/2023 23:28

I think it's about being reported. For some things, if you're reported then mnhq will take action. Otherwise not. So it depends on who's posting on the thread and if they care to report or not.

multivac · 28/06/2023 23:33

I'm still waiting on information about the timing.
The email from MNHQ referred to 'recent' posts - as an occasional poster, I find that confusing.
