custy, you have name changed !

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2008 17:45

what happened? cod were you on about scuttles and 10 / 10 yet AGAIN?

Wotzonked · 22/02/2008 17:46

here is MN policy

trolls and chat

I think the guidelines speak for themselves an most name changing is OK.

Wotzonked · 22/02/2008 17:47

F&Z of course

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2008 17:47

about the genuine name changing
plenty of people in RL know my posting name on here (or I presume so anyway, I am very recognisable)

if I want to post about a relationship difficulty or in fact ANYTHING I don't really want half the county knowing about then I reserve the right to change my name

I don't really get why malicious name changers aren't outed or banned

it's against the MN rules, isn't it? why do MNHQ never follow it up?

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2008 17:48

cod what got up your nose this time? you have been a bit one track about it lately? Or was it something new?

Spidermama · 22/02/2008 17:49

For me the whole point of MN is I can be who I am, warts and all, without feeling the social pressure to temper my being.

I can let rip on here. I can talk about my designer vagina and what led up to it. My cheating dh and how we've resolved it and all sorts of personal, less than attractive things.

I've only ever met a handful of MNers in RL and I don't tend to go to meet ups very often for this reason.

Name changing has its place though, and I think the people who do it cynically to have a go at someone because they are too chicken shit should be told off by MN if discovered. I thought that was part of the policy anyway.

Boco · 22/02/2008 17:49

Nothing new. Boredom I'm guessing.

VictorianSqualor · 22/02/2008 17:50

Crikey, if you want to change your names because it is embarrassing or personal, fair enough.
But if you want to namechange cos you don't have the balls to post what you think without a namehcange, don't post it.
It's the internet it's not like it really matters that much.

DualCycloneCod · 22/02/2008 17:50

oh nothing partic

half term ennui

OP posts:
Tortington · 22/02/2008 17:50

i have namechanged this is true - although not becuase i have smelly fanny worries.

but most people change their name becuase they blinked differently that day and they are embarassed about it - seriously a self of inflated importance as i dont think many people give a shit.

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2008 17:50

Aw don't be bored cod

let's do something entertaining instead

filthymindedvixen · 22/02/2008 17:51

I know a few people in RL so I name change for personal stuff or stuff which affects other people IFYKWIM. Tis a small world. I have 2 reg names but most people know that.

Boco · 22/02/2008 17:52

Franny are you trying to use your honed parenting techniques on Cod - lets try distracting her, reinforce the positives, ignore the negatives, if it doesn't work, we'll put on a DVD.

VictorianSqualor · 22/02/2008 17:53

I've namechanged from ym original name but only because it was easily googlable(?) and I didn't want everyoen I knew in RL to be able to find my posts.
{dumbass that used her real name}#I've always been happy to tell peopel that I changed it from whatever.

I can udnerstand some people may be a bit frightened, but if your opinion matters enough to say it surely you would get over the fright?

VictorianSqualor · 22/02/2008 17:54

Wow, my typing is really shit in that post.

filthymindedvixen · 22/02/2008 17:55

lol boco. Oooh look Cod, look at the nice handbag!!!

Boco · 22/02/2008 17:55

Custardo you might just be more confident and self assured than some people.

I did when I got a pos pg test and freaked out - I really didn't know how I felt about it and it helped me get my head round it - when I felt a bit clearer I outed myself.

Wotzonked · 22/02/2008 17:57

I would do it if I couldn't be arsed for the pursuing argument and just wanted to express it, like shouting over a fence or through a brick wall, or hooting your horn when someone is being a complete ponce! As long as it was within the guidelines because I'm a right fuss pot over rules.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 22/02/2008 18:04

I can name change as much as I want, I've been here since 05 but nobody knows who I am!

I have made this my new name, from ELF1981, but checking mumsnet and it says I have had seven names in total.

Obvioulsy only ever changed to be secretative, you know, those mad-ranting-think-I'm-going-crazy moments.

Not so much driven by my desire for people on mumsnet not to know what issues I have, but so people in RL who use mumsnet dont know it is me posting.

FrannyandZooey · 22/02/2008 18:05

ppffffft Boco

I just think cod is funnier when she is being, well, funny

not whiny

it was motivated by self-interest

pointydog · 22/02/2008 18:06

No point trying to stop name-changers. I just find it a bit irritating as I like to recognise names. I'm unlikely to post on a name-changer's thread unless it amuses me.

Boco · 22/02/2008 18:15

Franny those are my parenting techniques not yours, you'd have a better step 3 that wasn't 'putting on a dvd'. For Cod it would have to be 'test lipgloss' or something.

Boco · 22/02/2008 18:17
  • and look see, you're doing it, reinforcing the positives 'I just think Cod is funnier when she's being, well, funny'. See! A natural.
Tortington · 22/02/2008 18:19

seriously though is you have a mumsnet made-up name for the internet - its not like our saying "please help me and my smelly fanny my name is louisa brown from 12a acacia road
