well bad luck super cod. i like changing my name. i have a special pmt name i use so that i can't post on serious threads.

DualCycloneCod · 22/02/2008 16:29

where is the thread?

OP posts:
SugarSkyHigh · 22/02/2008 16:32

i post sporadically in a few different areas, never change name now though did when i started.

i haven't got to know anyone, on any thread cliquey or otherwise, although I AM an extrememely nice person

probably because i tend to come onto MN when i've nothing else to do (or just can't be arsed to do what i am meant to be doing) and leave random messages on randomt threads and never really know how the threads turned out....

platesmasher · 22/02/2008 16:33

did it get deleted cod?

JingleyJen · 22/02/2008 16:37

I think it is important to feel able to make your point heard and if changing your name gives you the confidence to do it then it isn't a bad thing..

BeauLocks · 22/02/2008 16:40

I'm enjoying my new name. It's like a fresh start and after 5 years on MN I felt like I needed a fresh start! I've certainly not done it for any ulterior motive.

Perhaps everyone should change for a day and see how the dynamics change?

PeachesMcLean · 22/02/2008 16:43

But Jen, isn't that the point? If you need to go anon to make a point, maybe you shouldn't be making it?

missConStrude · 22/02/2008 16:44

I've namechanged recently for personal reasons but I'm loving the complete anonymity of this name.
I did post on the other thread because I thought it was wrong wrong wrong but I didn't namechange specifically for it.
Anyway, personal circumstances have now changed so I'm going back to my old name.

K999 · 22/02/2008 16:44

Oh, thats an interesting though!!

K999 · 22/02/2008 16:45

thought

bookwormmum · 22/02/2008 16:47

I thought name changing to troll was banned?

[puzzled icon].

I've name changed myself once or twice for knotty problems but I suspect that my style of writing and/or issoos might have given the game away .

lachesis · 22/02/2008 16:49

Good point, MCS. I've just changed mine now, too. Not to troll, however .

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 16:49

i would want to namechange for something that was of a sensitive nature/something i might not want people who knew me to know.

JingleyJen · 22/02/2008 16:56

not always peaches, I think there are some instances where the anonimaty (how do you spell that!!) of a name change can help. (unless you have fishballs that is)

PeachesMcLean · 22/02/2008 16:59

OK, like when?

Iota · 22/02/2008 17:30

awwwww the thread was deleted and I missed most of it

damn, I enjoy a good ruck.

Janni · 22/02/2008 17:32

If you're not very confident you can feel well and truly slaughtered on MN when you first start out. You want to begin again and be more careful how you phrase things or what info. you give out, so you name change. It would be a shame if that facility were lost.

OracleInaCoracle · 22/02/2008 17:33

i name change if its a personal subject that i dont want the world and his pig knowing. and for silliness.

what happened on the thread? i turned it off to hand in some assignments, came back and it had disappeared

Tortington · 22/02/2008 17:38

there is no need to name change unless youhave a smelly fanny.

the only namechanging what we should allow is on theHEALTH threads and the namechanging name should be a simple ANON1 - if you wanted to give a reply anonymously then you would be ANON2 - this could easily be worked out technologically.

if you husband had run offwith a barmaid then its all part of what makes you - you.

and lets face it - if you wanted anew name you can re-register at a library - if it was that important.

we should make namechanging like the benefits system
very difficult but only a safety net for those with a smally fanny.

there are so many posters on mn now - that i dont recognise anyone anyway

someone today said " oops mweant to change my name" on a thread about ....erm......her mother and some money. i completely didn't see why a namechange was called for and i didn't recotgnise the poster anyway - even thought ey called themselves regular.

Wotzonked · 22/02/2008 17:39

May be this one could go too?

Wotzonked · 22/02/2008 17:41

custy you sound like the namechanging police

nappyaddict · 22/02/2008 17:43

but for instance - what if you were posting about something you were ashamed you'd done, or what if you were posting about a personal family situation that you wouldn't want anyone in rl you knew to know about yet. or what if you were posting that you might be pregnant and wasn't planning on telling anyone in rl til 12 weeks or so? there are lots of instances i think it is fine. to post an opinion you are scared to voice under your own name is not one of them.

Boco · 22/02/2008 17:44

Eeew, namechanging police with special powers to check on unpleasant genital odour. Wouldn't like that job. Maybe people should provide swabs before being allowed?
