I am starting to enjoy fantasist threads and posters

You know... "I have 6 children by 7 different fathers but we never eat UPF or carbs because of course anyone can easily avoid those foods. I go to the gym 2 hours a day and I do housework for 4 hours a day because anything less is being a slattern. I'm a size 8 at 5'2" and I weigh 90 kg which just goes to show that BMI is rubbish." (etc)

Just me? Anyone else finding the troll determination to see what outrageous things they can say and get away with, increasingly entertaining? It's like their own art form.

I still want to know how the three year old child has turned into two university-age young adults and is cooking all their own meals. (Ready meal madness.)

I like the bison ones, because she/he takes his/her time moving towards bison involvement, so there is an element of is it or isn't it.

Aren't there wolves, as well? all the entertainment from those comes from the pisstaking posts.

I really need a link to the sea serpent threads

Besides a link I need someone to explain to me what sea serpents and bison threads are because I feel that I'm missing something really special here

I haven't seen the sea serpents but the wolves and the bisons IIRC start with some country is going to introduce or reintroduce a species and It Ought Not To Be Allowed. After that MN posters take over and the flights of fancy are really something. The only thing I recall clearly from the wolves was that Britain isn't really an island and wolves can swim the Channel - which yeah, is a bit contradictory, but no-one reads those threads because they make any sense.

Greenable · 21/05/2023 12:39

There are bison in the UK. Farmed ones anyway.

I hate all of these types listed

but I do love sea serpents etc type ones.

They are a mix, usually you know they will get swatted

Pestispeeved · 21/05/2023 12:44

EmmaEmerald · 21/05/2023 12:19

They should be allowed to remain as classic fiction.

This. We need a section for the creative writing trolls.

"your DS only eats five slices of pizza, mine eats 12 whole pizzas as a snack and is the skinniest 13yr old in the entire world".

And more than likely the sweetest child you could ever know, Nobel prize winning clever, in the popular gang at school.

Oh and an "Elite" sportist"

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/05/2023 13:04

"I think the same person writes the bison and sea serpent threads.*

I've never seen a sea serpent one - I wish they would leave those ones up because I'm sure I would enjoy them. I mean they leave all sorts of other obvious bullshit up!

BronwenFrideswide · 21/05/2023 13:18

The spate of water poisoning ones were quite something and how the poster would start a thread on a completely different topic, with a mundane title and then bam! in would come the water poisoning conspiracy.

lljkk · 21/05/2023 14:24

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2023 10:03

If you're referring to an actual thread, I definitely need the link Grin

I work on the assumption that nothing here is real and just enjoy the crazy.

Just deleted: Gay husband for 10 years and his lover didn't say "Who is this?!" back for a starter when she rang, nor did her husband ask "What happened, why are you collapsed on the floor?". MNHQ just took it down so I can point directly at that one. I was just starting to quite enjoy the creative fiction of it. I was ready to award the writer 7/10 for skillful blend of almost totally obvious BS with fairly believable narrative.

What I was really thinking was "My husband is horrified if my grubby mitts touch his phone" but didn't bother saying so.

Maybe MN needs a "Fantasist shit, truth or lies, how outlandish is this?!" topic

There really was a poster who said she had 6 kids by at least 5 different dads (clearly not impossible) but then her situation kept escalating with increasingly unlikely other aspects.

It's getting to point where I often leap to Reddit or Tattle to lurk on TAAT discussion.

There's an anecdote on a current thread that should have been all over national news if true. I am biting my tongue on that one. It's well told, fairly sensitive, so far only prompted one somewhat emotional response. 6/10.

I think it’s the same person as the bison / wolves / sea serpant threads. Either very very mentally ill or very very bored.

Mars27 · 21/05/2023 15:54

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain , thanks.

I suppose they either may have way too much time on their hands, are bored, deranged or probably a combination of all three 😬

FangedFrisbee · 21/05/2023 15:56

I'm insert skinny as a rake teenage son

Fairislefandango · 21/05/2023 16:00

The proper bonkers ones are fun, and the rest don't bother me in the slightest tbh. MN is pure entertainment for me, so I honestly don't really care whether posters are telling the truth or not!

TheShellBeach · 21/05/2023 16:23

Tattle is a good place to discuss BS threads on MN.
I love the way they take the piss out of the Style and Beauty threads.

It wouldn't surprise me if they are the same person @PurelyBelter odd topics to post about.

I wonder of they were the same as the one(s) who started the infamous threads about dinosaurs and dolphins, same level of extreme posting.

ArcticSkewer · 21/05/2023 16:27

I look forward to the day when they are not even real people, just AI created content.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 21/05/2023 16:32

My favourite thread in living memory was the T-Rex thread. Wasn’t it something like:
“I’m fed up of DH doing a T rex in the supermarket queue and there’s red wine all up the wall”

that was a great thread.

Absolute genius.
Feel like it resurfaced as a zombie recently or was linked-think it is quite rightly in Classics

I love the ghosty ones, there was a great one where a packet of cheese jumped out of a fridge and wacked the OP on the shoulder, and another one where there was a weird noise at the end of the garden but the OP jumped the shark at the end and ran away.

The food madness ones are mad. As I am now old I do feel obligated to go on the UPF ones and say obviously living on biscuits is bad but this is just the latest FAD people

The English cheese being flung out of the ghostly French fridge was one of the funniest threads I’ve ever read on mn. I wish I had the link.

My fav threads currently are any where people get ludicrously one-sided, are then argued with so calmly that they have to concede defeat and actually be a normal human and consider someone else’s pov. There was a recent AMA where this happened, it felt like the entire thread applauded when a posted climbed down off their high horse and actually learned something.

T-rexing in the supermarket? That one was crackers.

I sort of love (although I think they’re so dangerous) any weight loss or weight related threads. I feel like everyone on them is insane. Sharing diets that sound like a poster for an ED, insisting they are a slim size 10 at 16 stone, saying they’d look ‘skeletal’ at the weight their BMI says they should be. Fainting in disgust at the idea that anyone can eat a whole tin of soup to themselves. Like it just seems to drive people nutty.

God yes this is true.

I was lurking on a thread where the OP said she was sick of dieting and had forgotten (indeed had never learned- being at the mercy of an eating disordered mother and fat shaming father) how to eat real food and so was going to enjoy three healthy meals a day. Cue posters piling on to say that she was too carb heavy (talking about a single slice of grainy bread at lunch) and she absolutely was a disgusting alcoholic because she wished to enjoy a glass of wine a day ( a single glass) and that she really needed to get real because she was clearly overweight and should cut out all carbs and sugars (she mentioned honey on her porridge).

The thread started as a poster looking with some excitement about trying to overcome a lifelong eating disorder and it veered into posters sneering at her that she wanted to eat strawberries with her breakfast.

It was sickening. Not least because the poster was not looking for diet advice, but was sharing her desire to lost the obsession about dieting and to start eating well.
