I am starting to enjoy fantasist threads and posters

You know... "I have 6 children by 7 different fathers but we never eat UPF or carbs because of course anyone can easily avoid those foods. I go to the gym 2 hours a day and I do housework for 4 hours a day because anything less is being a slattern. I'm a size 8 at 5'2" and I weigh 90 kg which just goes to show that BMI is rubbish." (etc)

Just me? Anyone else finding the troll determination to see what outrageous things they can say and get away with, increasingly entertaining? It's like their own art form.

OP posts:
Mermaidparades · 21/05/2023 09:54

🤣 I’m glad you mentioned this, I was beginning to feel like I was being too cynical!!

JenniferBarkley · 21/05/2023 10:03

If you're referring to an actual thread, I definitely need the link Grin

I work on the assumption that nothing here is real and just enjoy the crazy.

Florissant · 21/05/2023 10:07

I enjoy the posters who make a post all about themselves.

For example:

OP: "A week ago, I tripped and twisted my ankle. It's still purple and swollen. Should I go to A & E?"

Other posters: "Yes. A & E is a good idea if your ankle is still like that after a week."

But then.

Another poster: "My mother died last year after waiting in A & E for 16 hours and the staff at the hospital didn't care that she was lying on a trolley in a hallway all that time. I am still distraught and can't look at a photograph or her without bursting into tears. I miss her so much."

And it all derails...

The posters after that: "Oh, poor you. The NHS is on its knees and it's so cruel the way your mother was treated. Have you considered suing? Your mother deserved better than that. My mother died two years ago and I still miss her. Mother's Days are so hard because she's not here and she was everything to me"

Sorry, SEA SERPENTS? I'm definitely reading the wrong threads🤣

I sort of love (although I think they’re so dangerous) any weight loss or weight related threads. I feel like everyone on them is insane. Sharing diets that sound like a poster for an ED, insisting they are a slim size 10 at 16 stone, saying they’d look ‘skeletal’ at the weight their BMI says they should be. Fainting in disgust at the idea that anyone can eat a whole tin of soup to themselves. Like it just seems to drive people nutty.

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 21/05/2023 10:18

I love bonkers food threads that are so clearly nonsense, they make me laugh though.

BanjoKnickers · 21/05/2023 10:21

I felt rather sorry for people posting lengthy heartfelt advice on the increasingly ludicrous "my husband is gay" thread last night.

Paperlate · 21/05/2023 10:25

I love the bonkers food ones. 'You let your children eat a kit Kat?' 'My 18 year old twins have never even seen a Kit Kat'

Rice fucking Krispies. Someone on that thread legit said ‘well they aren’t a breakfast, they’re a dessert.’

Have they never seen a chocolate cake?

Yep, or, "you have a whole tin of soup for lunch, and a slice of toast", "we share between seven of us, no wonder there's an obesity crisis", blah blah.
Or the opposite, "your DS only eats five slices of pizza, mine eats 12 whole pizzas as a snack and is the skinniest 13yr old in the entire world".

So do I, the Ultra processed food threads are insane but I suspect they are just polls for TV programmes or media articles but there I am reading them all😄

Paperlate · 21/05/2023 10:36

I love all the 'My kids are still eating the chocolate selection box they had for Xmas in 2018'

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/05/2023 10:56

I love the ghosty ones, there was a great one where a packet of cheese jumped out of a fridge and wacked the OP on the shoulder, and another one where there was a weird noise at the end of the garden but the OP jumped the shark at the end and ran away.

The food madness ones are mad. As I am now old I do feel obligated to go on the UPF ones and say obviously living on biscuits is bad but this is just the latest FAD people

InBeautifulKindWays · 21/05/2023 11:36

Yes, they’re very funny. When I discuss mumsnet with friends that use it, it’s always the crazy ones that get mentioned. If my partner knows I’m on here, he’ll ask what made up shit is there this time. 😅

The only ones where people make up things about illness/death of other serious issues and people who have genuinely dealt with those issues get sucked in offering support are horrible though. Mumsnet believe way too much.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/05/2023 11:42

I read that UPF thread and I read the Van Tulleken 'experiment' - in inverted commas because it didn't sound much like a controlled and rigorous experiment to me and more an excuse to write a book - and wondered just how many ED's this is going to trigger.

WandaWonder · 21/05/2023 11:42

I love the physics

"I put a chocolate wrapper in the bin at work and my colleague looked at me funny"

"You need to quit she is wanting your job, and if you hang around she is going to go after your man girlfriend protect yourself"

Alcemeg · 21/05/2023 11:43

I'm a sucker for them when drunk on a Saturday night and I'm not that fussed about what I dispense my fabulous wisdom on Grin

InBeautifulKindWays · 21/05/2023 11:43

I love all the 'My kids are still eating the chocolate selection box they had for Xmas in 2018'

Or the ones where it’s 2 days after Xmas/Easter and they’re asking what they can possibly do with all the ‘leftover’ chocolate. It’s not left over, it just hasn’t been eaten yet, how about you give people a chance to eat it? 🤣

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/05/2023 11:46

I like the bison ones, because she/he takes his/her time moving towards bison involvement, so there is an element of is it or isn't it.

TheShellBeach · 21/05/2023 12:12

I think the same person writes the bison and sea serpent threads.

turquoisemelon · 21/05/2023 12:13

Honestly those threads are just really sad :(, i feel like they need help

bussteward · 21/05/2023 12:16

I really need a link to the sea serpent threads

PriamFarrl · 21/05/2023 12:17

Sea serpents and bison threads just get deleted.

They should be allowed to remain as classic fiction.
