And if not, it looks as though I've hidden it. Can anyone tell me how to unhide it?

Agree. If true, Kate is in the wrong. It's ridiculous to demand a new dress for a child if the one is too big. Any good tailor can sort that out. It would be harder if it was too small.

It was ill fitting. In reality the waistband needed to sit at least an inch higher, the hem adjusted to it would lay straight, the puffed shoulders reduced as they were too big. Once you start adjusting these it affects the rest of the dress, meaning it’s easier to remake (not from scratch but taken apart/ measured/cut/sewn). This is what should have happened.

if you look at Charlottes compared to the Canadian bff daughters dress they look quite different. Her skirt flairs out- Charlottes doesnt. I think it’s been taken in at the waist and it’s lost some of its darting. It’s lost all volume. It looks unlined too. The bffs daughter fits perfectly and looks great. Charlotte and some of the other girls dresses look at least a size too big and don’t look great. I don’t understand why there wasn’t a fitting. Seems odd. I don’t know anyone who has had flower girls and not had them fitted for dresses (even if was just bought from monsoon and checked that it’s the right size)

@YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet can you confirm the Windsors gif with Camilla with a cricket bat wasn't a serious comment on what happened. Hmm Some posters seem to have had a sense of humour bypass Grin Unsurprising given their past record.

I'm not up to speed here, as I'm another one who's hidden the RF topic but am agog to know what happened to it - but Becky's meme is Justine, isn't it?

Maybe they didn't go & see the fitter or he ran out of time?

But yes where is the Royal topic?!!

StarInTheHeavens · 09/01/2023 20:01

As someone who sews, I can't understand how these dresses never fit in the first place. They're no-expense-spared dresses made especially for the occasion, they should be near perfect first go.

tobee · 09/01/2023 20:01

Ooh I love that "pre populated sentences"

No idea what it means though.

Coffeecreme · 09/01/2023 20:02

can someone link the Justine with a cricket bat
it was funny

SighsTheNewWord · 09/01/2023 20:02

Or you could read it as two people who aren't on the same wave length and have rubbed each other up the wrong way over a much longer period - one for being a bit bridezillia and ordering the other about and the other being wound up by the tone and expectation that she do every demanded rather than politely communicating.

You could say that and it may well be true but I'm only going by what the texts said and Meghan didn't show to be a bridezilla. On the other hand, the "I already told you" shows that Kate already knew what to do with the dresses so why ask again? Because she wanted all the dresses to be remade?

For me it looks like people who don't know how to talk to each other more generally and it reads even worse on text. If that's true it's not really about dresses at all but the relationship at a deeper level.

Yes I agree. I said so in my post - they both sound annoyed with each other already (and both obviously have their reasons).

I thought it was Justine, yes.

The hem was criminally bad.

tobee · 09/01/2023 20:03

@AutumnCrow do you think there are bots representing both sides?

(I've not been looking massively closely)

AliceOlive · 09/01/2023 20:03

doory · 09/01/2023 19:56

She wrote that the dress needed to be remade. That doesn't mean a new dress, it means taking this one apart and building it again.

so a new one then

No, that's not how a seamstress/dressmaker would look at it. For instance, I had a dress refitted. It is the same dress, it just fits now. It was not just taking a bit in here and there, though. Nor was it dismantling and resewing the entire thing. It's not something just anyone could do, as it's well beyond "tailoring".

Frankly I am shocked by so many aspects of this. Who made these things in France with measurements only? It really reflects poorly on the maker. And that it was so very last minute. Also that they didn't have someone on hand with the skills needed to truly fix the problem.

Mostly shocked that M or K had to deal with this at all. Wasn't anyone project-managing this whole thing?

I think both were a bit harsh with one another, but it sure as shit shouldn't be global news that two women sent a few terse text messages.

Yeah, exactly.

GyozaGuiting · 09/01/2023 20:04

To be fair if my niece was upset I'd be kinder to her than Meghan was. I don't have anymore context of this conversation though! But I wouldn't want my niece crying!

GloomyDarkness · 09/01/2023 20:05

I think that she probably has enough staff that a nanny could have taken Charlotte and sorted it.

Possibly - but I've no idea about Kate mental health or physical well being after the birth - what else she had on - whether she'd need to be there or child would be happy with nanny as they'd just got a new sibling and make be needing parents around for reassurance (my kids didn't but some do). I don't know how bad the dress was.

I also wonder why if Megan was so stressed she didn't delegate dresses and wedding to some of her staff and maybe ask Kate to contact one of them and not her.

I do know despite the great tailor being on standby- the dresses on the day look very poor - and many commented and assumed they hadn't been professional designed, made and fitted. The fabric was subsequently blamed as being too thick - which TBH frankly is astonishing as you'd expect that to be part of design process.

Hence why the girls should have been fitted and the dresses not made from measurements. Couture dresses you have at least 2 fittings. At least. They get the dresses in to try them on kids 4 days before the wedding? I’ve never known anyone to do this re flower girls. You have to pay particular attention to the fitting of the dresses as kids can grow between fittings. It why it’s important.

If MNHQ are reinstating the RF topic will they be able to find out why it disappeared?

BethDuttonsTwin · 09/01/2023 19:50

Kate had given birth THREE WEEKS prior, she had a new born. Was she really expected to go and stand around at dress fittings like “the other mums”. If someone had posted this here on MN she’d have been told her SIL was a Bridezilla who should be told to eff off!

Well, she was going to go stand around at her dressmaker?

doory · 09/01/2023 20:06

@AliceOlive I was being facetious, I understand dressmaking. Taking a dress apart & "rebuilding" it is not an easy or quick job. Agree that the dresses shouldn't have been like that in the first place though.
