MNHQ, why was this thread deleted?

Why was the AIBU thread

'To think that this man should not be allowed to live in student halls'

deleted?

Deletion message states that personal information was divulged, but it wasn't: there was a link to legitimate news sites that reported the info. Public domain!

Why are you more interested in protecting a violent criminal than the youngsters he may gain access to? Why can't we discuss this?

Argh X post. Great update thanks @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Skinnermarink · 23/10/2022 20:15

In error?

was it aye.

stealthninjamum · 23/10/2022 20:16

Placemarking to see what Mumsnet say.

I would hope that these kind of awful misjudgements get reported, not censored, so that parents can help their child make informed decisions about which universities to choose.

stealthninjamum · 23/10/2022 20:17

Ignore my comment! We crossposted.

Thanks Mumsnet

Hi folks - so sorry, it looks like this was deleted in error. We'll reinstate it shortly.

Can you explain more? When you looked at the thread and saw the link to the news story, saw the people naming him were quoting the article you thought he hadn’t been named?

And when you deleted the other threads for being ‘threads about a thread’ you didn’t even read the op that pointed out this man was named in the press?

Or did someone report it for naming the man and no actually looked into it. Which is odd because MN very rarely delete something just on someone reporting it.

Thank you so much Becky.

Can you let us know how this happened please? The deletion message was pretty clear but not one person shared information that wasn't in the article that was in the OP.

I'm also assuming someone reported it. I do think there needs more questioning of motivation behind reporting. So often it's malicious.

bare · 23/10/2022 20:25

Thank you

In error?

was it aye.

How could such a specific error occur? Can you explain the process step by step from the report to an untrue deletion message? Its hard to see how someone could get it so wrong

camelotscoconuts · 23/10/2022 20:33

This is horrific. Cardiff university sounds shit. It used to have a strong reputation.

… Surely there were other suitable candidates who DIDN’T strangle a vulnerable woman??!! 🤯

Skinnermarink · 23/10/2022 20:34

Or.. no candidates. Not fulfilling that role is better than installing someone that is a danger to women, and would leave those students a lot less fucking vulnerable as a result.

Also deleted the thread about things you dont dare say out loud...
Why?
No sense at all

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 23/10/2022 21:00

To be brutally honest, it was pretty much just a big error of judgement on our part - a cock up, rather than a conspiracy if you like. There was confusion over whether this was an active police investigation - and, obviously, that's not the case here. We're sorry for the upset caused - this is an important discussion.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 23/10/2022 21:02

Yes, I want to know why the thread was deleted? The info is already in public domain?

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/10/2022 21:03

Thank you for your brutal honesty @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

To be fair, I appreciate the honesty. Rather than some excuses that make no sense. Mistakes happen. Hopefully this type won’t happen again.

XanaduKira · 23/10/2022 21:38

Grateful that you were honest @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet - MN really does need to be a place where women can be vocal about the threats we're under and at times it feels the complete opposite hence.

MonsteraDeliciosa · 23/10/2022 21:46

Posters above wondering how/why he was given this position. It reminded me of the Scottish periods guy, who got the job because he was a friend of the recruiter.
As this person has a background in education, perhaps he knows someone in Cardiff uni?

You mean you didn't bother to carry out a quick google search before you pressed delete?

You are far too trigger happy.
