Consent pop-up again - help!

Frenchlady14 · 08/10/2022 15:48

Aaaargh it's back - the data consent request at every click. I've tried disabling it in settings but it's not working. Is anyone else have this problem again and how can I get rid of it. I've got a Chromebook?

Opening incognito still doesn't affect the cookie consent pop-up for me in any of the three browsers I use.

LilyMumsnet · 26/10/2022 18:02

Thanks all, we'll get back to you shortly.

LilyMumsnet · 26/10/2022 18:04

Hi both

Please could you take a screen recording for us so that we see what you are seeing when you navigate the site?

You should be able to screen record by following these instructions:

Open Launchpad
Open ‘QuickTime Player’
Select ‘File’ dropdown at the top of the screen
Select ‘New Screen Recording’
A small camera will appear where your mouse is. Click the screen you'd like to record
Navigate the site and clear your cache
When you’d like to stop the recording, select the icon that’s a circle with a small square inside (attached a screenshot of what this should look like)
Send the recording to us via email - [email protected]

Consent pop-up again - help!

Hello again

I said I'd leave it a while before visiting the site again due to the impossibility of navigating without the awful Consent pop-ups. Just logged in again for the first time since 15/10/2022 at 19:48 and dismayed to be met with the continued popups.

I used to enjoy reading questions in the Home section, and the responses including helpful tips etc but I can't even really get to any posts anymore because everytime I click on anything, I'm confronted with that Consent thing.

Can nothing be done? Am I going to have to delete my account again and just stop visiting MN???😖

Nersa · 01/11/2022 01:32

Forgot to say I've already tried all the steps outlined, multiple times on both browsers I use - Edge but mostly Firefox - and nothing works. Always faced with the Consent box requiring no less than three clicks to get past...every time.

HebeMumsnet · 02/11/2022 11:24

Hi @Nersa. We're so sorry this is still happening. We're still working on a fix. Most people are able to use the incognito workaround we're finding but if that's not working for you we'd like to be able to work out why in the meantime.

If you have time, and are happy to take a recording of what's happening, using LilyMumsnet's instructions above, and can send that to us, we'd be happy to take a look and that might help us work out what's going on.

Thank you for your continued patience, anyway.

Nersa · 02/11/2022 20:49

Hi @HebeMumsnet
I don't have Launchpad or Quicktime. Best I can do is upload condensed screenshot with text indicating what I've already said. This is happening every time I click to read a post, move to next page, change topic etc. It's awful.

Sorry its not good quality - looked better on my desktop. As already indicated I'm using a desktop, Windows 10, have tried Microsoft Edge browser and Firefox and this happens every time. It makes MN unusable for me.

LilyMumsnet · 03/11/2022 09:55

Thanks so much for the screenshot, we will post as soon as we have an update. Flowers

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 04/11/2022 07:51

I can't use Quicktime easily on my computer, but here is the best screenshot I can get - it doesn't really help, though! But to reiterate - every single time I go to a different page/click on a link within MN, even when going to the next page in a thread, I get the same message. Unlike for others, going incognito after clearing cache and cookies doesn't make a difference at all. It happens in all browsers on my Macbook Pro, but not on my iPad.

This is what happened immediately after I posted my last message.

Hi @Jaichangecentfoisdenom - thanks very much for uploading those screenshots. We're still looking into this and will be back with an update just as soon as we can. Thanks so much for bearing with us.

Frenchlady14 · 01/12/2022 10:59

Hi The consent pop up is back. I've followed all the instructions for deleting cookies in permissions in Chrome then rebooting and it still happens. Is there another way?

Hi OP

We know you've cleared your cookies but please could you do cache as well? They usually work better when done together. Please keep us updated.

Frenchlady14 · 01/12/2022 12:07

Hi Lily - could you let me have the steps for clearing my cache again please in Chrome?

Still no change. Very fed up.

antikkiti · 13/12/2022 20:01

This is still happening to me too, every time. But I'm getting round it by always opening Mumsnet in an icognito tab. It's irritating to have to do that but it works.

HebeMumsnet · 14/12/2022 11:38

Hi @Frenchlady14 . Try this:

On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More .
Click More tools. Clear browsing data.
At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
Click Clear data.

@HebeMumsnet, I have tried your suggestion many times and it just doesn't work. The ONLY thing that does work is using an incognito window for Mumsnet.

LilyMumsnet · 14/12/2022 16:30

Thanks all - we'll post as soon as we have an update.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 14/12/2022 17:30

Thanks for the screenshots. 🙏

If anyone else is experiencing this, please let us know your device and browser, and also if possible, share with us a screenshot of your full screen when you get the pop-up. So not just a clipping of the pop-up, but the whole window - basically everything you can see on your screen. If you don't want to do this on the site, please email [email protected] with the subject 'consent pop up'. Thanks, all - we'll try to get this sorted out ASAP.

antikkiti · 15/12/2022 14:28

Here's a screenshot, as requested. I'm on a Macbook Air using Chrome. Hope this helps.

Just signed in for the first time since last time and dismayed to find the awful pop-up STILL in play here. I thought that maybe that was because I wasn't logged-in. Mislaid my password, which is why I haven't logged in again until now (found p/w earlier) but can nothing be done about this security thing? It is still making th site quite unpleasant. Using Firefox on a Desktop computer. Both computer and FF are fully updated.

Hello

We're so sorry you're still having issues here - please could you let us know how frequently this is happening and whether you can accept/deny and continue with the site, or not?

Nersa · 14/02/2023 00:53

Hi LilyMumsnet
Same as my previous and earlier posts really, where I also provided images. Just faced with the Consent box requiring no less than three clicks to get past...every time. I have to click the boxes in order to read the post then do the same thing if I want to return to post list or move to next page or return to active post list. By doing all of this I am able to 'continue' with the site but its truly awful and makes me not want to visit. Except I do, and I miss being able to read the Homes section and Help & Tips, DIY etc. As someone who is isolated at home due to various circumstances, I really value sites I enjoy with communities I can (or could) interact with, especially those that provide actual helpful tips or answers to questions posed by those seeking to buy a certain item or product and are seeking user experience and recommendations.
Thanks for still trying to resolve the issue, though. I really hope you can.
