Consent pop-up again - help!

Frenchlady14 · 08/10/2022 15:48

Aaaargh it's back - the data consent request at every click. I've tried disabling it in settings but it's not working. Is anyone else have this problem again and how can I get rid of it. I've got a Chromebook?

Hey @Frenchlady14 have you tried clearing your cookies? That seems to work in most cases.

Here are the instructions for Chrome:

Computer - Delete specific cookies

On your computer, open Chrome
At the top right, click More â‹® > Settings
Click Privacy and security
Cookies and other site data
Click See all site data and permissions
At the top right, search for Mumsnet
To the right of the site, click Remove
To confirm, click Clear.

Let us know if that works, or not. Thank you.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 10/10/2022 10:46

Btw @Frenchlady14 I assumed you're using Chrome but if not, please let us know.

antikkiti · 12/10/2022 01:23

@mumsnet I have been experiencing this problem for weeks, ever since you changed the cookie consent protocol. I've tried all the suggestions but nothing has worked. Clearing cookies makes absolutely no difference at all. The pop-up appears on every new page and makes the site very unpleasant to visit. Is there really nothing you can do to sort it?

antikkiti · 12/10/2022 01:24

Meant to say, I have a Macbook using Chrome browser.

HebeMumsnet · 12/10/2022 11:33

Hi @antikkiti. We are sorry this is causing such problems. We are working on a solution as a matter of urgency but at the moment we don't have a date for a fix for it.

We can see that clearing cookies didn't help for you. Have you tried using 'incognito mode'? Obviously not a permanent solution by any means but that also seems to be a useful workaround for lots of users.

I had to delete my account because it became impossible to read any of the threads due to constant repeated popups requiring me to click for consent. In the end I got so fed up I deleted the account. That was a couple of weeks or so ago and I've just registered again hoping whatever the problem was has been resolved but unfortunately not, same thing happening. Just came to post to ask how I can stop it and saw this thread so adding my own experience to it.

I'm using a desktop and Firefox browser and do not have this problem on any other site I visit/use.

Nersa · 15/10/2022 02:17

@Technophobic thanks for the link! I'll try it out and see if it works for me.

Nersa · 15/10/2022 02:36

@Technophobic The 'blocker' doesn't work for me 😬

The consent thing is causing me to have to click three times in succession before I can even read the page; initial popup ‘Manage Consent’ request which I click and then face a second popup showing three options (1) ‘Reject All’ (2) ‘Save and Exit’ and (3) ‘Accept and Close’. I click ‘Reject All’ and am greeted with a THIRD popup checking if I wish to ‘Cancel’ or ‘Reject’ – I click ‘Reject’. This happens every single time I try to view a page and a post. Very tiresome.

I’ve previously enjoyed reading the posts on MN, especially the household helps and tips and the advice in the relationship threads, but honestly the site is almost unusable for me…

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 15/10/2022 10:15

Hi @Nersa we're sorry to hear this. As @HebeMumsnet said up thread, we're working on sorting this as a priority but for the time being, it might be easier to use private/incognito browsing.

Nersa · 15/10/2022 19:48

Hello MN staff, just letting you know that I've tried private/incognito browsing in both Edge and Fiefox earleir today and just now, and it makes no difference. I won't sign in again for a while now as the site is unusable for me but will check back in a couple of weeks maybe and see if the issue has been resolved.

Sachertorterules · 17/10/2022 12:40

I'm having the same problem in Firefox (and any other browser you care to mention) on Macbook Pro, though (touch wood) not on the mobile app. I've tried all the suggestions above but the number of times I'm being asked to give cookies consent is increasing every time I log in! I'm really fed up with this and as I'm hard of sight, I much prefer using the browser on my computer than the mobile app on my phone, so I'm another one who won't be bothering with MN until it's sorted.

I am getting this all the time on Safari - I have been clicking accept pretty much every time I switch threads now for days (weeks?) - I am soon going to have to give up on the site it is too much hassle. And tonight I am getting the occasional denial of service message.

That doesn't work in any browser on my Macbook. Nor does going "incognito". Is there anything else your techies can suggest, please?

We'll look into it now but can we just check - have you cleared your Mumsnet cache and cookies? If not, please could you do this now. It usually sorts this out!

Yes, I've done that numerous times. Just tried again. Still get the consent pop-up, constantly.

Could you possibly try Mumsnet in a different browser so we can see whether the issue is coming from the device or safari?

Sachertorterules · 20/10/2022 21:25

@LilyMumsnet Yes, I have already done this several times with Firefox, Safari and Chrome. Same result in all of them. Consent pop-ups continue.

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 25/10/2022 16:00

Hello, @LilyMumsnetor @HebeMumsnet - is anybody there? This is still an ongoing problem for me on my MacBook Pro, in Firefox, Safari and Chrome. I've followed all the suggestions above several times, to no avail. Is there no more help you can give, please?

LilyMumsnet · 25/10/2022 16:45

Hi @Jaichangecentfoisdenom @Sachertorterules

Please could you check whether your browsers are up to date? Any extra info could help us replicate. Really sorry that this is still an issue for you. Flowers

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 25/10/2022 17:44

Yes, all my browsers are up to date. In fact, it was when I did an update to my Firefox browser that this problem started happening, relatively recently compared to all the other complaints about this on here.

antikkiti · 25/10/2022 22:55

@Jaichangecentfoisdenom Same here - my Chrome browser is up-to-date and I've tried all the other suggestions. The only one that works is opening an incognito mode window to use the site, which is inconvenient and rather annoying. It does seem odd that mumsnet is unable to sort this when it obviously started when they changed their cookie consent policy.
