Is anyone else getting a message saying "do you want to download .txt" when they're browsing here?

Thanks. Safari on ipad.

Still happening her & it’s definitely whenever that ad comes up. Ad is on the side bar for me

NoMichaelNo · 17/07/2022 11:27

Why hasn’t this been fixed yet?

JoMumsnet · 17/07/2022 14:46

Hi again, we're really sorry that this issue is taking so long to resolve.

We're doing what we can behind the scenes to block the ads which may be causing these pop-ups. In the meantime, as BeckyMumsnet said above, clearing your cache may help.

Please bear with us - we'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

I’m getting this again too today. Ads on page are Cellular, Toyota Rav4 and Bentley (I wish).
Got rid of the same pop-up by clearing caches a couple of days ago, so this is becoming very annoying now

Am on Safari 15.5, iPad.

I’ve been getting this pop up for days, with increasing frequency.
An hour ago I deleted mumsnet from my favourites list and then re added it.
so far so good, no more pop ups!

Yesthatismychildsigh · 18/07/2022 08:57

Just done it for me again. This site just isn’t safe, is it.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 18/07/2022 09:01

And after closing that tab and re opening, it happened straight away. This site just isn’t safe at all. I’m off again. I’m shocked that you seem to have learned nothing after other big failures in your security.

I'm getting it a lot too. Only mine says it's downloaded a text file, doesn't give the option to decline it.

Morning, everyone. Thanks for the further information. It's all helped us in tracking down the problem and we hope to have it sorted very soon.

Just to reassure you, the issue you are experiencing is not malware or a threat to your system. This is happening due to an ad being coded incorrectly by an advertiser and we are investigating with all of our ad partners to identify who is delivering this ad and will then be taking strict measures, such as banning the advertiser.

Please note, this issue is not specific to Mumsnet and will happen on other websites because the pop up is being served by the browser misunderstanding the creative due to the incorrect implementation, so it may be something you see elsewhere, too.

As soon as we have tracked it down and got rid of it we'll update here and on the other thread, too.

Thanks again for your patience.

HebeMumsnet · 20/07/2022 11:27

Morning!

Some good news: we have spoken to the advertiser directly and now have confirmation they have paused all activity on Mumsnet so this should no longer be a problem. It's possible you may need to clear your cache so if you do spot this problem again, do try that first.

Of course, if there are any further issues after that, please do let us know here but hopefully the issue is sorted now.

Thanks again for your patience while we found a solution. Flowers
