Is anyone else getting a message saying "do you want to download .txt" when they're browsing here?
Thanks. Safari on ipad.
LilyMumsnet · 11/07/2022 21:58
Hi OP
Can you possibly take a screenshot of the popup next time it happens, so we can see it? Can you also send us a link to where you were on the site when it happened? We're keen to investigate!
LilyMumsnet · 11/07/2022 22:15
Thanks so much for that - we're looking into it and will get back to you ASAP!
DawnMumsnet · 12/07/2022 12:59
Thanks to everyone who's flagged this issue. We're still investigating and will be back with an update as soon as we can.

Hello everyone - thanks so much for the screenshots and info. The pop up you're seeing is caused by an ad on the page and right now, we're trying to identify which ad it is. In the meantime, clearing your cache might stop it. If you need help doing this, please let us know what browser you're using and we'll take you through the steps.
YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 14/07/2022 15:02
If you're experiencing this on Safari, could you please let us know which version you're using as we're trying to replicate it? Thank you. 🙏
YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 15/07/2022 11:29
Thanks so much for the info. This should be fixed today - we'll keep you updated.

Hi again, we're really sorry that this issue is taking so long to resolve.
We're doing what we can behind the scenes to block the ads which may be causing these pop-ups. In the meantime, as BeckyMumsnet said above, clearing your cache may help.
Please bear with us - we'll be back with an update as soon as we can.

Morning, everyone. Thanks for the further information. It's all helped us in tracking down the problem and we hope to have it sorted very soon.
Just to reassure you, the issue you are experiencing is not malware or a threat to your system. This is happening due to an ad being coded incorrectly by an advertiser and we are investigating with all of our ad partners to identify who is delivering this ad and will then be taking strict measures, such as banning the advertiser.
Please note, this issue is not specific to Mumsnet and will happen on other websites because the pop up is being served by the browser misunderstanding the creative due to the incorrect implementation, so it may be something you see elsewhere, too.
As soon as we have tracked it down and got rid of it we'll update here and on the other thread, too.
Thanks again for your patience.

Morning!
Some good news: we have spoken to the advertiser directly and now have confirmation they have paused all activity on Mumsnet so this should no longer be a problem. It's possible you may need to clear your cache so if you do spot this problem again, do try that first.
Of course, if there are any further issues after that, please do let us know here but hopefully the issue is sorted now.
Thanks again for your patience while we found a solution.
