Please stop doing this for the love of god it clogs up the whole thread and then the thread ends up being a fight between two people that requires endless scrolling. Surely just tag the person or copy their last comment; not the whole 20 post discourse?!?! Giving me the rage

You're right Giraffes, it's fucking infuriating.

Now I've used it, I quite like it tbh

Hawkins001 · 05/06/2022 11:59

On the flip side it give the full.context of the particular focus.

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 12:00

@Hawkins001

but to get to the point where you’re reading 20 posts together you’ll have read the other 19 the post before and not need the context

OP posts:
JustTheOneSwan · 05/06/2022 12:04

It could be clickable to expand if you want context. 1000 replies like this will be crazy.

PriamFarrl · 05/06/2022 12:10

See I hate it when you get a post like:

@Hawkins001 i quite agree.

I’m not scrolling back through an entire thread to see what people are agreeing with. Bloody quote or copy and paste the relevant bit if you want.

True but if I'm joined a thread that's already running at e.g. 600 comments, these blocks in theory can help Me to catchup.

Just had to do this to see how it evolves - it’s quite graphic isn’t it?!?

lurchermummy · 05/06/2022 12:20

Totally agree I find it very confusing and it's kind of lazy too

DanielRicciardosSmile · 05/06/2022 12:22

I have to admit I much prefer the quotes (yes, even the nested ones) to the posters who @ a PP from 12 pages ago and respond, meaning I'm stuck either not knowing what they're responding to, or going back through an entire thread looking for that poster's comment.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 05/06/2022 12:25

Just to add, because I've forgotten what they said in the intervening 11 pages, or more likely didn't look at PP's names at the time so don't know what they said in the first place, not because I haven't RTFT.

I prefer to quote so other people know what you’re replying to.

The first post is just getting thinner

TottersBlankly · 05/06/2022 09:20

I concur - the nesting function makes the site almost unusable. Why any poster would think it aids discussion is beyond me.

But what drives me to incandescent fury are the posters who quote the opening post in its entirety. Angry Genuinely, such people should be banned from the Internet.

Particularly if they're only putting something completely inane, such as "good luck OP" or similar.

There's already been a thread about this, though

But how many re-quotes until the first post is vertical line of single letters?

I hadn't noticed that.
Now you've mentioned it there's only one thing for it...

Oh yes you are right, I hadn't spotted the annoyance factor, shall not stop doing it.

Ah yes, really annoys me when people do that.

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 13:03

I hadn’t realised there was another thread but given the carnage of the loo thread by the end I think it bears repeating.

the @ function tagging someone from pages ago might be annoying but it’s to tag a specific poster to engage in discussion. I agree it’s nicer to copy and paste the exact thing you’re responding to, but just tagging is better than scrolling through the quotes

It helps when PP remember not to use the quote function on an already-quoted post. But some PP are thick & annoying ...

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 13:31

@KangarooKenny

can’t you see how unbelievably annoying the quote is as the reply gets longer and longer

I wonder if it has a max no of quotes?
