Please stop doing this for the love of god it clogs up the whole thread and then the thread ends up being a fight between two people that requires endless scrolling. Surely just tag the person or copy their last comment; not the whole 20 post discourse?!?! Giving me the rage

There is a thread at the moment about men in the ladies loo that's gone bonkers on the nested quotes. There are about 15 nested and you can barely read it. I think there should be a limit on the number of quotes. I also can't stand it when two posters derail a thread with a petty side point and the nested function facilitates this. There is one at the moment where the OP has asked about living in inner London, it's completely clear what she means, and yet two posters are broiled in a nested quote battle about the exact and correct difinition of inner London!

PurpleDaisies · 05/06/2022 08:48

yep.

Oh yes you are right, I hadn't spotted the annoyance factor, shall not stop doing it.

Snowflakes1122 · 05/06/2022 08:59

Much preferred when people would highlight in bold text the quote to which they were referring to.

YANBU

WooNoodle · 05/06/2022 09:01

Much preferred when people would highlight in bold text the quote to which they were referring to. same but I totally get that the quote function is far more accessible and I'm all for accessability.

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 09:13

@IglesiasPiggl

that is exactly what drove me to make this thread 😃

I haven’t even seen a new quote function? Is that on the app?

It may be because the bold formatting is still iffy in some cases also mnet didn't have to tile this big it could be loads better.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/06/2022 09:16

quite agree

NippyWoowoo · 05/06/2022 09:19

Ok but just tagging is also incredibly annoying when you need context. There's nothing worse than an AMA where the OP doesn't use the quote function and you have to scroll back and forth to see what question they're answering. I just give up and read something else.

TottersBlankly · 05/06/2022 09:20

I concur - the nesting function makes the site almost unusable. Why any poster would think it aids discussion is beyond me.

But what drives me to incandescent fury are the posters who quote the opening post in its entirety. Angry Genuinely, such people should be banned from the Internet.

No, I started a thread about it on site issues as it doesn't work on the app and so I can't see what people are replying to if there is more than one quoted post, it's like putting pieces of a puzzle together

yes. YES. WHY?!?!?

can people who use the quote function see how annoying it looks to scroll through the blocks of text or not?

I quite like it (apart from instances the OP describes) as I find highlighting just the reply really difficult, plus many times making it bold isn't simple depending on the formatting etc. also on the mobile site bested comments are easy to ready, not sure how it looks on a computer.

But the app is easiest for me to read and make sense of due to the size of text and the layout, but the besting function doesn't work on it so I'm missing out on key details sometimes and it's frustrating

Spohn · 05/06/2022 09:39

It just makes me scroll past and click away from the thread entirely, it's a visual sign that there's a lot of idiots clogging up the thread and therefore not worth reading.

And yes, people quoting the entire OP just to gormlessly type one sentence. Why?
Wall of text quote followed by 'handhold'/'ask your boss'. Get off the internet!

Giraffesandbottoms · 05/06/2022 09:44
