This is a really useful feature - please don't tell me you've taken it away?!

So pleased its not me being stupid! I just cant get the new search function to work at all. Utter rubbish

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/04/2022 13:16

Yes, telling us it's an enhancement is really insulting.

SueMumsnet · 27/04/2022 14:08

Hi all - just to say we're on this. There's a list of things we're working through but we hear you on Search and will sort it as soon as we can.

SenecaFallsRedux · 27/04/2022 14:41

Thanks @SueMumsnet

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 27/04/2022 14:47

Why even try to fix something when it wasn't broken?

Old advances search did the job beautifully.

Aaarghh! ignore last post, I was talking about Watched threads, not searches. Sorry Blush

purpleme12 · 01/05/2022 21:07

On the old one you could search by post titles. So just searching by what's contained in the post title rather than thread content.
I can't see that option now?!!!
I always use that!

Now it only searches post titles. you cant search within posts now

purpleme12 · 01/05/2022 22:13

It definitely doesn't just search titles
It comes up with the content in titles sure but also comes up with that content in posts as well rather than just titles.
I know cos it all comes up highlighted, the relevant bits

Eupraxia · 01/05/2022 22:19

I just searched by username. It only brings up threads where the user is the OP.

That's no use to me.

bruffin · 01/05/2022 23:27

It highlights the word within the posts but only brings up posts with the word in the title in the first place.

bruffin · 01/05/2022 23:44

Ive just searched the word Cardiff , all the posts had Cardiff in the title.
I then tried to search Cardiff mentioned by me. It only found 2 posts , one i started the thread that didnt have Cardiff in title but was about Cardiff and another post. I know i have posted on many of the uni threads about Cardiff , so completely useless

purpleme12 · 01/05/2022 23:48

Well this is really wierd because when I search it's not like what @bruffin says
When I search it does still highlight the content in the posts and those threads don't always have the words in the actual title of the thread at all.

bruffin · 02/05/2022 00:07

Are you seeing tghe whole title? Im on the mobile site and the title is truncated and you cant always see the full title.
As i said when i search a word with me ss the poster it brings up posts without the word in the title but only threads ive started. Ill see tomorrow if its different on pc or laptop

purpleme12 · 02/05/2022 01:04

Yes I checked that and definitely seeing the whole title.

Wigeon · 02/05/2022 08:22

I’m also finding the search pretty impossible to use - the sliders are totally unworkable on my phone or iPad (which are the devices I use to mumsnet) because you can’t drag them to be specific enough (particularly on recent dates). I used the search date range all the time on the old site, often to search a period of only a few days.

I also used to regularly search by posters’ user names (including to find my own previous posts), and without searching for a term within the posts, and that seems impossible /inaccurate - when I drag the date sliders to the last couple of years (because it’s really hard to slide them to a shorter time period!), and search for “posted by” my username, it only returns 14 hits, but I have definitely posted on far more threads than 14 in the last 2 years.

Please return the old functionality in search, @MNHQ!

purpleme12 · 02/05/2022 22:32

I just searched for title of a Tele programme (which I know there is 2 threads on with that title in) and it didn't come up at all!
I honestly never had any issues finding things with the old search and used it all the time as well!

SenecaFallsRedux · 03/05/2022 11:07

Any update on when we might get a search function that works, @SueMumsnet ?

onemouseplace · 03/05/2022 11:42

The search function is dreadful now. I get more relevant and better results if I do a search in Google with Mumsnet added to the search term.

knowinglesseveryday · 03/05/2022 12:02

Search has always been an issue on Mumsnet. It's far easier to search on Google to find what you want on Mumsnet.

purpleme12 · 03/05/2022 14:35

I honestly never had any problems with it before.

I did see other people sometimes say they couldn't find something but I could always use it.
But now it's not coming up with things at all

SenecaFallsRedux · 16/05/2022 21:34

Any updates on fixing the search function, MNHQ?

Howeverdoyouneedme · 16/05/2022 21:41

Please change search back to how it was. Totally useless now.

BIWI · 16/05/2022 21:42

I genuinely don't understand how you could have introduced this new search function @MNHQ. You must have included it in the pre-launch testing, surely? But it can't possibly have been tested as it's so poor. Definitely not fit for purpose.
