We're re-platforming - anyone have a few mins to test our Beta site and feedback?

Hi all,
As some of you already know because you've been testing it, we're in the process of re-platforming. In the last week or two we've been making changes based on your feedback and we are hoping to launch next week. Before we do that, we'd be grateful if some more Mumsnetters could take a look at it to see if there are any remaining glitches.

Our main objective in re-platforming is to move onto a new code base that will allow us to develop and improve features much faster. We have kept the functionality and design largely unchanged for now, aside from small enhancements to the user experience and some updates to a few features that don't function optimally. So, for example, there is a new version of Search and a new version of Private Messages.

If you’d like to take a look at the new platform please go to the beta site You can log in with your existing Mumsnet username and password.

For this test - we’ve taken a snapshot of the live site as it was at the end of 20 Feb - so any new posts, or changes you’ve made since then, won’t be reflected on the Beta site.

Whilst navigating around the Beta site, if you notice any usability issues or bugs, please report them via the “feedback” tab you’ll see on each page (see screenshot above). Any time you can spare to have a play (be it minutes or hours) will be hugely useful and much appreciated.

A few final things to note
1 - For now we're just focusing on the web version of the site, so if you only use the app, then we don't need you to participate just yet - we'll be looking at that in due course.
2 - If you’re a Premium member, this won’t be reflected on the Beta site just yet.
3 - Some users who've registered on Mumsnet with a social account will need to reset their password to login.
Big thanks!

Hi,

@tribpot that looks like an error - can you send us the URL of the page you're looking at, please?

It'll help us recreate the issue on our end if you can also share your device type and browser including the version e.g. Mac laptop, Chrome Version 98.0.4758.102

Thanks,

Katy

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 18:12

@SueMumsnet I found those emojis but they aren't the MN ones though!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 18:13

PS I use the desktop site in Safari

SueMumsnet · 22/02/2022 18:14

@BoreOfWhabylon - they're here

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 18:15

Ah! Just found them under the big blue M Grin

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 18:15

X post!

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 18:23

Also, I can't access or send PMs. I get an Error 500

And I can't find a way to search posters/words/dates etc. Just the big search box at the top but no Advanced Search.

Ifailed · 22/02/2022 18:34

Seems OK (using Firefox on a PC), but a bit disturbed that one of the top threads was:
Do all women enjoy giving blow jobs & anal?

DomesticatedZombie · 22/02/2022 18:42

Kerning looks a bit over wide, but that's probably not the kind of feedback you're looking for ...

DappledThings · 22/02/2022 19:47

I can't see how the Search works. I tried to add a username as a filter but I can't see how you apply the filters.

And can I just put a note in to say please don't add an edit feature!

FeistyOneIAm · 22/02/2022 20:16

I don’t like the blue feedback marker in the middle of the page on the right hand side (safari iPhone webpage, not app) as it covers up the text

BoreOfWhabylon · 22/02/2022 20:40

@DappledThings

I can't see how the Search works. I tried to add a username as a filter but I can't see how you apply the filters.

Me neither!
Walkingalot · 22/02/2022 20:47

I got in, no problem. Liking all the emoji's.

RampantIvy · 22/02/2022 22:31

It's not working for me on my kindle.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 23/02/2022 04:27

Attached photos appear to be busted - just seeing the 'broken image' icon at eg beta.mumsnet.com/talk/property/4485449-do-you-havr-a-freestanding-bath

AuntieStella · 23/02/2022 06:35

Won't let me log in - same 'page expired' as others have mentioned

Safari on iPad

AuntieStella · 23/02/2022 06:37

And no edit function please ! Although it's annoying that you can't change the SPAG error you see the second after you press 'post' it has always been very much part of the MN ethics that you have to stand by what you post, no backsies

Please don't change that - there's plenty of other sites where people who want that can go to chat.

PurBal · 23/02/2022 06:42

@tribpot it’s not responsive if that’s happening.
But I assume this is why you’re getting people to look at the Beta site MN. Has the developer QAd it yet?

tribpot · 23/02/2022 07:22

@PurBal I used developer tools in Chrome to check how the page would be displayed on various mobile devices and it does look responsive on those (fortunately) but the problem in the desktop view may be more of a design problem - as with the current design, a whole load of white space is wasted because there are two columns on the page, and only one is populated once you get below the 'trending now'/'insight' boxes. It looks more extreme than on the current page because the container is even narrower.

KatyMumsnet · 23/02/2022 09:16

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback, we're just catching up!

If you don't get a direct response then don't worry - we are collecting everything and discussing it!

@BoreOfWhabylon & @DappledThings we've combined the advanced search features with the main search.

Enter your search terms/words in the search bar and then in the filters, you'll see:

  • Topics
  • Usernames
  • A date range

To apply the filters enter your search term and then click the filters:

  • in the left-hand sidebar on desktop
  • on the filter drop-down at the top of the page on mobile

The filters are automatically applied and will only be removed if you click 'clear filters'.

If you're still having issues let me know,

Katy

KatyMumsnet · 23/02/2022 09:36

@tribpot & @PurBal

Thanks for your feedback it's really helpful! That is a bug and we think we know what it is, so we'll let you know once it's fixed.

TheOccupier · 23/02/2022 09:45

The Sex topic is visible in Active Threads, which I don't think is the case on the current site.

AuntieStella · 23/02/2022 09:48

Well, I've now managed to log in, but no pages are opening

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 23/02/2022 13:50

The content of the beta Active Conversations list appears to not be updating - just checked the top few and none of them have actually been posted to recently.

HerNameIsIncontinentiaButtocks · 23/02/2022 13:55

Probably related - active topics like AIBU seem to be partially updating, but don't have everything. The beta version of Site Stuff doesn't go newer than the 20th Feb, too - here in the old version there's six newer threads (including this one :D )
