Vibrator thread - why is that not in the sex topic?

I'm sure it was moved before. Why is it back in Active Convos? What's the point of having dedicated topics if even MNHQ don't use them?!

(Yes, I know - clicks = money)

I mean, if you’re prudish and boring, just say that. People are perfectly entitled to not want to see adverts for vibrators on their timeline every time they open up mn without that meaning they’re boring.

If we must have those adverts, then can we not choose or not choose to be able to see them?

As for saying that @anyfucker wouldn’t be able to post until the watershed, that is different surely? There have certainly been instances where thread titles have been changed because having certain words in a title has been deemed to be inappropriate, or does that only count when we’re not paying mn for the privilege?

I posted a thread once after I had a dream about sleeping with my ex, it wasn’t explicit in the slightest and yet it was reported and moved to the sex topic within minutes.

I read the article and it extremely dull and typical Ann summers - sex toys for the male gaze Hmm. Nothing recommended looked in any way interesting - if you use sex toys, it's old hat, if you don't the title would be offputting.
I'd prefer a more normal thread title like "Find out why Mumsnetters rate Anne Summers Sex Toy Selection Box" which is a little less in your face.

AdamRyan · 07/02/2022 16:33

Oh, amd also yes far less explicit threads get moved to Sex and killed by mansplainers

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 07/02/2022 16:41

Hello everyone. We've changed the title of the thread to something a bit calmer: '11 best sex toys for Valentine's Day from Ann Summers'.

AnyFucker · 07/02/2022 17:15

That is better. I still won’t be reading it, but each to their own. —I prefer Lovehoney—

My strikeouts don’t seem to work any more Angry

@JustineMumsnet

Interestingly you're right about the Sex topic being excluded from Active - I've just checked - but I have to say that was news to me. Mumsnet has always been a site for adults not children, and there's certainly no watershed, so if you'd asked me I'd have said it was in Active and I don't really see why it shouldn't be given that you can hide whole topics if you don't like it in your preferences? We have a rule about not posting on the sex topic until you've been a member for 90 to deter trolls.
Well put, an adult site for adult activities of various natures.

@AnyFucker

You have a point there 😄 Although my sweary nickname is not emblazoned in bold capitals across the top of the page….

Seriously though, it does look tacky. If it’s meant to be “empowering” for women to have their orgasms shoved in their faces (metaphorically) you can count me out.

Keep this site for what it was founded for, and let the sex pozzy wankers find their own grubby little home

But part of doing the business is part and parcel of human nature, so why can every other topic be discussed , but heaven forbid anyone ask s for tips or advice on an adult activity and suddenly it's omg 😲 how dare x person ask such a thing.
