Can we have a ban on thread titles that begin 'So, ....' or 'OK,....'?
It irritates me!

harleyd · 14/12/2007 10:36

whats boden

Kathyate6mincepies · 14/12/2007 10:37

I would like a ban on cliquey threads, or at least they should all go in the same topic so we can hide them all in one go. I don't know who Worley, Jenn and Puss are but I got so sick of them until I remembered I could just hide their silly thread.

aWorminaManger · 14/12/2007 10:40

The point about all these asterisks and what-not being difficult for people using screen readers is a very good one. Must be a toal pain to have your software intoning 'asterisk, angle bracket' 100 times.

Blu · 14/12/2007 10:46

Hmmm. The access issue is an important one. Maybe we should have a MN code of practice that says no unnessary punctuation - and if people want to do threads with patterns of brackets etc, the thread should hava warning -'Beware: symbol-infested thread, no sensible language - Wannabe don't waste your time!'

Don't mind the fruit etc so much because anyone can join (and their titles make me laugh).
It's where you get the sense that they only want to talk to each other....

TenLordsaLapin · 14/12/2007 11:13

Ooh I hadn't thought of the accessibility issue. Very good point.

Ok Blu, so, I think I might be guilty of that from time to time

Cod, are you the arbiter of taste now? And are you doing lip balms?

CarmenerryChristmas · 14/12/2007 11:16

I definitely start my threads with both SO and OK , apologies, of all the ways I irritate folk on mn I would never have guessed that this is one of them

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 14/12/2007 11:20

erm I do start my threads "so" and "ok" .

perhaps we could have a "clique" section and the teashop and the staffroom and scuttlebuggers (whoever they are) etc could all post there and those who aren't privilaged enough to be in a clique could hide the topic so as not to be reminded that we're not clique-worthy .

merrylissiemas · 14/12/2007 11:21

i always use 's for the teashop threads and i'm not stopping as lulu said, attention-grabbing but not shouty. stops them getting lost in active convo's.

merrylissiemas · 14/12/2007 11:23

teashop/bar are not cliques. you just assume they are because the same people use them. everyone who can be bothered to click on them are made to feel welcome

Mincepiedermama · 14/12/2007 11:23

And let's ban 'L@@K', 'Wow!' as well as thread titles starting with 'Sorry...'

I don't like clutter littering up the active convos board.

allIWannaBeForChristmas · 14/12/2007 11:28

hmmm, but if it's always the same people posting, then it's unlikely outsiders would feel confident just crashing and essentially butting in with regular conversation?

TenLordsaLapin · 14/12/2007 11:46

I've fallen into the bar on the odd occasion and been warmly welcomed (and plied with virtual booze )

Kathyate6mincepies · 14/12/2007 11:47

The Sleep Is For the Weak gang were very friendly when I went on there briefly.

merrylissiemas · 14/12/2007 12:01

but thats exactly why a new thread is started daily.

im sorry, but ifyou dont try you never know!

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 14/12/2007 12:01

If we all gave every thread the exact same name and used the same punctuation, Active Convs would look very neat and tidy.

pantoinghousewife · 14/12/2007 12:02

And very dull.

DaddyJoseph · 14/12/2007 12:03

I know, I know, fishy, you do have a point!
Though on our DadddyJ thread we are certainly not cliquey.
Couply more like.

I suspect MNHQ would ignore me if I asked them to change
the thread title (like them lot ignored questions
on the whereabouts of that unusually civilised CC thread!)
but let's hope the awesome political clout of the codmother
will make a difference here.

And now I am off to bump it into active convo..
prepare to click hide if need be.

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 14/12/2007 12:04

Considering what WannaBe says about her screen reader, it would be decent of everyone to avoid unnecessary punctuation in thread titles. It annoys me just reading them, let alone listening to them.

cod, we've been through this.... pop in for a cuppa . its churlish to ridicule something if you've never tried it. (and fyi we dont pretend to drink tea, we chat. its just called the teashop so its easy to find)

stleger · 14/12/2007 14:49

I went into the teashop once, to speak to somebody who hangs out there. It was fine, they were nice and gave me cake.
