Apols we're going to need to ask you to consent to cookies again...

Hi all,
Just wanted to post that this morning we're asking users to re-consent to cookies and there's nothing amiss or to worry about if and when you see a pop up message to that affect.

The reason is that we have a number of ad tech partners and when we update them (sometimes we switch them in and out particularly if they are slowing the site down or causing a poor user experience) we are legally required to push out a new consent message to all users. Sorry for the inconvenience - we promise to always try to do things in batches to keep these re-consent messages to the minimum.
Thanks for your patience!

Will this cause Premium users to start seeing ads again @JustineMumsnet? It did last time and I can't remember what we had to do to get rid of them.

ColinTheKoala · 02/11/2021 11:46

You are not legally required to push out another message.

Quite the opposite - if I've declined, I've declined. You don't get to keep trying!

And legitimate interest isn't consent. Why do I get asked about that?

Waahingwashingwashing · 02/11/2021 12:00

Your gum gum privacy policy doesn’t link

Thanks - we've checked and all appears to be fine with Premium but of course do let us know if you start seeing ads!

Hi there - I'm afraid it's a limitation of our consent management provider (Google) that we require all users to re-consent - there's no way of excluding anyone. We are currently exploring new providers because there are quite a few limitations with Google's system (funding choices) and are aiming to introduce a new one in place when we replatform Talk in the new year. Many thanks for your patience in the meantime.

Is there any way we could accept essential cookies only ? That’s an option on other sites and it’s just so slow to go through to each individual provider (and you have to click through off the main first page)

ThatLibraryMiss · 02/11/2021 13:05

It's just taken me a little over five minutes to object to all the vendor preference "legitimate interests". It takes longer on my phone, which is why I only use MN on the laptop.

Look here. I click Reject all cookies then Save and close and it's done. I hate the Google cookie policy, especially as it feels deceptive that you think you're rejected all cookies unless you click on vendor preferences. I hope you do change, and that one of the things you look for is easy cookie selection.

ChicCroissant · 02/11/2021 13:10

Yes, it is the legitimate interests Hmm that takes the time, when most sites have an 'object all' button that takes care of it. Very annoying.

AuntieStella · 02/11/2021 14:03

It took 162 keystrokes to deny all permissions.

That's really Not On.

There was discussion on the last thread about having an effective 'reject all' option.

You really should look in to that.

Agreed. We've spent the last few months investigating other consent management platforms to give you the option to do this. We're confident that we've found one now and we'll be making this change as part of our move to our updated Talk platform in the New Year. At that point you'll be able to just click one button to reject all cookies. Meantime thanks for your patience on this.

So glad you are putting in the steps to allow one click 'reject all', its such a pain and time consuming having to click through each and every one..... especially if you use more than one device!

BlueSnowyFeetByMoonlight · 14/12/2021 18:28

Can you stop adding new adtech’s until the reject all button is available?

Or give us a date it will be?

Then we can chose if it’s worth it to plough through yet another pita cookie consent (latest today but how many more before reject all is available) or leave MN until Jan/Feb or whenever reject all comes in?

Not trying to castigate or rush but just be clear ie you will have to do x new cookie consents between now & y date when reject all button will be installed.

Then depending on our levels of MN addiction we can know if it’s worth yet another round of scroll/click for a couple of days/week/month/longer

SleepyMathematician · 14/12/2021 21:32

What annoys me, and seems disingenuous, is the accept/ reject buttons seem deliberately designed that you don’t know which way is which, unless you know about such things. I had to ask my techy son in law which way was accept and which was reject as I couldn’t tell. He thought it was a bit “tricksy” on your part. Designed that users get confused/ fed up and press the accept all button, I suspect.

Memyselfandfood · 15/12/2021 06:59

Yes but why so often! This us happening for me every other week!
Im fed up of it now. Im avoiding coming on here as i can’t be bothered to keep going through this.

Memyselfandfood · 15/12/2021 07:00

Or why have you not added a reject all button?

Santapankitoo · 15/12/2021 07:23

I can't get it to work on my phone now.
I can get in the app but not onto the "desktop " one now that I have clicked my choices.

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 07:26

Yeah I just accepted all but I’m uneasy about that. I have limited mobility in fingers due to arthritis and it’s a literal pain at times and even usually it’s just hard to do coz my fingers don’t always cooperate (see my many autocorrect mistakes in my posts!) and I just couldn’t be arsed.

Any idea when the reject all button will be functional?

Unmerited · 15/12/2021 07:30

This has been an education as I had no idea the strong opinions on cookies!

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 07:31

Some of the cookies are really intrusive and track loads on your device @Unmerited

Unmerited · 15/12/2021 07:40

I guess I think that ship has already sailed but wonder if I need to reconsider @Theremoresefulday

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 07:41

Yeah I get that. I usually just reject all which I think most sites do

Unmerited · 15/12/2021 07:49

Thank you!

CovidPassQuestion · 15/12/2021 19:28

They track you across different devices too, which you can't opt out of Hmm

Santapankitoo · 16/12/2021 07:50

Still can't get it on my phone .
The app works.

Santapankitoo · 16/12/2021 17:12

I got it to work by following @VioletPetals advice on another thread in site stuff 🙏🏼
