AIBU Topic specifically for Coronavirus

What do you think? Free up actual AIBU for the petty gripes of old, get rid of the AIBUs relating to the pandemic?
It could have the voting and everything!

@BIWI

The second AIBU topic would be hidden away in the CV board though *@AuntieStella*!
Yes and could be hidden. 😀

It's pointless reporting them now. Even when a post is absolutely about coronavirus and has literally no "AIBU" at all it gets left in AIBU because the OP could "benefit from the opinions of other MNers".

I have noticed that. Or MN think it's a useful conversation or whatever.

I have hidden AIBU for this exact reason at the moment. If I want to read about coronavirus I go to the board, if I want light entertainment I go elsewhere but its hard to avoid covid now. I find myself on Reddit a lot more these days, even though I prefer the demographic of MN, mostly cos I can avoid the covid chat more easily.

Chemenger · 09/01/2021 11:27

I totally support this. If MN won’t move CV threads then they should remove the excuse for putting them in the wrong place. It’s not just threads with votes that they refuse to move, though, because of the spurious “benefit from the opinions” reason, I reported one specifically pointing out that it neither asked “AIBU” or had a poll and still got an ambivalent answer.

BIWI · 09/01/2021 11:38

TBF most of the ones I have reported/asked to be moved have been.

SoupDragon · 09/01/2021 12:51

Yet another 100% Coronavirus and 0% AIBU thread apparently perfect for the AIBU topic 🙄

I give up. They just don't care any more. I think it's time for a break.

Which is a shame as this is pretty much my only interaction with people I haven't given birth to.

Sparklingbrook · 09/01/2021 13:07

Every time there is a headline anywhere about CV (but the more alarming the better) you can guarantee within thirty seconds there will be a thread about it on MN. Or 5. I don't know why it all has to be endlessly discussed and chewed over quite so much.
I have been sucked in on many occasions but it tends to be humorous or questioning which is not welcome I don't think. Never been @ed or quoted so much before. Sadly I have my @ notifications turned off. Grin I think everyone's a bit bored, I'm back to work on the 19th and sanity will be restored.

I’ve just reported an AIBU thread about CV being transmitted on car tyres. Let’s see whether that will benefit from the opinions of other mumsnetters.

What? It's transmitted on car tyres? Really?

I've just reported that one too!

Chemenger · 09/01/2021 13:17

It’s only a problem if you lick the tyre immediately after an infected person has licked it. Then you both take turns licking it for at least 20 minutes. I hope that helps, sparkling . You would maybe benefit from spending some time outside looking for lost kittens to calm you down (was it you who used to bitterly bemoan the fact that nobody ever abandoned kittens in your garden?).

Yes, not even lockdown has brought a kitten to my garden, Sad

Sorry @Sparklingbrook, of course I meant to post Sad

Great deletion message:

Message from MNHQ: Thanks for the (many) reports on this one. We think we'll park it for now.

Grin i have resigned myself to never having a homeless kitten turn up. A year or so ago a cat turned up but I took it to the vets, it had a chip and I returned it to it's grateful family. It had been missing for 6 months. So that was nice.

@LilyMumsnet

And please, please, please will MNHQ properly moderate ?

I counted over a third of threads in Active the other day as being about CV but not on the CV board - and they weren't all AIBU either.

If someone reports a thread about CV from another board, will you move it?

HoollyWugger · 09/01/2021 13:28
@NMHQ

Might be better to look at the app first. Lots of people (myself including) are unable to post on anything other than AIBU from the app. It won't let you choose a topic.
If you go to Topics (on the app), find the topic you want to post under, click on it, then click on the new thread icon, that gets you a correctly positioned post 👍👍

FlibbertyGiblets · 09/01/2021 13:34

Awww a cat rescuer reuniter, that IS nice, dear.

My cat/garden story: (last summer)
Hedgehog feeding was going really well, or so we thought, we didn't see the hoggy but nightly putout food was disappearing. Smug, thinking we may have a family...

Late night out, stargazing at local playing field. Back at midnight. Not one not two but THREE local cats scarfing down. Admittedly one feeds hedgehogs cat food so our surprise at finding cats eating cat food was unwarranted. What's that saying about unintended consequences? Sigh!

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2021 23:11

I would still really like this. Covid all over AIBU currently.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 22/01/2021 23:46

Yes, but they are there for debate so that the OP can get a variety of opinions. Or something.

It's never going to happen. They didn't even move one that was absolutely about coronavirus and nothing else. No one will use it anyway.

Yes, the debate and variety of opinions and the traffic and all of that. Generally speaking any CV thread in AIBU-the answer is 'yes very'. Sad

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/01/2021 23:58

When did people start debating stuff in AIBU? There's a first time for everything I guess.
