Hiding whole topics

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 04/01/2021 10:23

I feel that this has probably been asked before, but is it possible to hide a whole topic? I'm getting increasing anxious about Covid Extreme Threads here. I would like to be able to hide the whole thing, or stop it appearing in trending, but just so it doesn't appear in Active... do I want the moon a stick? Grin

This is mine.

I use the mobile site almost exclusively. I used to be able to switch to Desktop and hide topics from there but the switch to desktop link disappeared about 6 months ago and despite threads about it in Site Stuff it hasn't come back, is there a reason for that? Or is it back but in a different place?

tappingintherain · 06/01/2021 18:22

I switched to computer from mobile site because of these disappearing links and how easier it was to do some things on the desktop. But it seems there's an 'old mumsnet' interface and a new one with fewer options.

SoupDragon · 06/01/2021 18:45
@SoupDragon

I don't have that here and most of the options you have. In fact your whole page and how your posts show is completely different from mine. I'm on the computer - is this the app or premium feature?

I'll see if i can take a picture of mine to show you.
It's just the desktop site.

There is a chance it's because I've been here long enough to be allowed the "MN Classic" option.

tappingintherain · 06/01/2021 18:51

I believe so Smile. Wish I had that though. I really need a quick way to hide threads rather than having to go into each thread to do so.

Isn't this something MNHQ can take a look at for others, pls? @soniamumsnet

Samcro · 06/01/2021 19:13

I forgot about the virus free topic, i have now even started a thread in there.
Its like mn used to be.

EssentiallyDelighted · 06/01/2021 19:16

I didn't know there was a covid-free topic. I hid AIBU years ago and Covid as soon as it was started so I have avoided most of it but it still crops up a lot elsewhere.

That’s great, now there have been two posts in the last month in that topic. Watch out for the tumbleweed. The problem is that nobody remembers it exists and it’s too vague to attract anyone.

So true, and why should non-Covid topics be hidden in the corner?

MrsDoctorDear · 06/01/2021 19:31

@soniacovidnet can we have our boards back please?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/01/2021 22:30

They're ignoring us Mrs Doctor!

Agree. It's the Covid topics that should be hidden in the corner!
soniamumsnet · 07/01/2021 10:17

Hi - thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions on this, which we'll certainly take on board.

@tappingintherain that's something that we'll look into too.

Again, if it's all a bit much, here's a good section to escape to if needs be:

thecognoscenti · 07/01/2021 10:27

@soniamumsnet is it possible to hide topics on the app, or not?

SoupDragon · 07/01/2021 10:29

But it isn't a good place to escape to unless you want to be hidden away in the attic.

BIWI · 07/01/2021 10:37

Hide the Coronavirus topics away, please - for the love of God!

tisonlymeagain · 07/01/2021 11:07

AIBU that AIBU is 90% bloody coronavirus topics now?!

I don't think I'd ever used the hide thread option before, now I seem to be using it constantly
tappingintherain · 07/01/2021 11:15

I hid so many topics a while ago but may as well not have, since threads are still all over the place.

Can't stand all the relationship, school, coronavirus stuff.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 07/01/2021 12:33

@soniamumsnet You tried to chase us in there yesterday, or someone did. It's like tumbleweed! Is reporting a post the only way to get it to where it should be?

OP posts:
tappingintherain · 07/01/2021 13:15

Ooh thanks @soniamumsnet Missed your post. That would be brilliant if HQ can do this soon. Would make user experience so much better.

tappingintherain · 08/01/2021 07:07

Also, thank you @SoupDragon. Sorry, forgot to mention. Smile

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 08/01/2021 15:05

Not really an answer though Tapping, more a pacifier Hmm

Hi @thecognoscenti sorry for the delay in replying to you. This isn't possible in the app at present, but we'll definitely bear it in mind for any future versions of the app. Flowers
