I wish you wouldn’t have deleted it @MNHQ.

I live in that area and I could have took some round and seen it they were ok, I actually replied that I could do this in the thread shortly before it got deleted.

It might have been a scam but it also might have been some one really struggling with no real life support. Not every one have family or neighbours they can ask.

You can’t just rock up to a food bank, there is a process you have to follow a process of getting one of a front line worker such as social worker, GP or citizen advice - all of which you have to book an appointment with which can take days/weeks.

1 in 7 people that use food banks are in employment. Even our beloved NHS nurses are having to use them so maybe if the OP came on and said she was a SP nurse and tax credits had fucked her payments up she would have got a bit more sympathy rather than ‘Reported!!!’ And ‘You again!!’

There has been times when I was working and had to look down the back of the couch for change for bread. This shit really does happen. Luckily I had family to help out, the OP could have been completely isolated and unable to ask anyone else.

Did you block the OP or offer any kind of assistance?

This could have been a scam but it also could have been someone who was desperate and promptly got shut up.

Op, Christmas is just around the corner. Pretty soon their will be plenty of begging threads to choose from!

PhilSwagielka · 27/09/2020 16:45

@Byallmeans

I’m not coming back to the thread as it’s depressing as fuck that some one asked for food and they were met with such contempt and suspicion. No wonder people are afraid to ask for help.
Let me guess. You’re the OP and you’re mad people didn’t fall for it.

Or maybe the op identifies very strongly with the scenario put forth in the scam and is feeling personally condemned and judged because she's seen people read a post that she feels could easily have been her at one point and almost everyone immediately went "scammer, don't believe you".

We can all be sensitive when things hit close to home.

I doubt the scammer would be that emotionally invested when they've got access to the big wide internet full of people to try and con.

But who knows.

@MagentaRocks isn’t it? Sad

AlternativePerspective · 27/09/2020 17:25

I said upthread that I wondered if the OP of this thread was the same one.

She was just far too aggressive IMO. Her attitude doesn’t fit with someone who was desperate, it was more like someone who was annoyed that people wouldn’t give in to these scammers. Including the attitude that “I’d rather be scammed than see someone going without.”

I suggested she put a post on her local facebook page offering money to whom so ever wanted it, but she didn’t respond to that.... Grin

OP instead of getting so overinvested in one person (who honestly isn't going to starve because you can get there and rescue them), why don't you volunteer for a charity then people you are helping have been validated through the charity's processes. There is plenty of contributions you can make if you want to help.

daisychain01 · 28/09/2020 21:25

can = can't

@MagentaRocks

OMFG. My post was automatically hidden because I mentioned the other site. Unbelievable. I came on to show how the OP of the begging thread Was doing the same thing over there just the date of the payday was different so clearly a scam.
That's just because the site regularly spammed MN trying to drum up members.
BIWI · 29/09/2020 23:22

@MagentaRocks

MNHQ use an algorithm that automatically deletes any post that mentions the site in question (along with a specific reddit one, I believe).

So it wasn't a judgement about the specifics of whatever you had posted.
