Can we have an Asian and ethnic minorities board please?

I thought we were included on the Black board but I've been told in no uncertain terms its not for us so could we have an Asian and ethnic minority board please? Global majority is also fine. No one is excluded, everyone can post on it but it will be easier to note those posts that have a particular cultural element to them.

I also think MNHQ has to provide or create new guidelines to deal with the influx of angry, new posters demanding people state their race before they're allowed an opinion or to post on a section. It's a dangerous surge into right-wing identity politics and as a member of a minority group and whose DH is from a different BAME community, I find it very concerning.

No ones demanding anyone state their race before posting on certain boards. It's simply the question of why, if you're not indian/black would you be posting commenting on an Indian/black board? There's nothing for you there, sure you're welcome to contribute but would you actually have anything to? Just like on the adoption boards - I'm not banned but I have nothing to offer and no questions to ask so I just don't use it.

@HebeMumsnet

Morning KenAdams,

Thanks for posting. As with the new Black Mumsnetters board, we're always happy to do something new if there's enough call for it and we can see the board will be well used. We'll keep reading and making notes, so, everyone else, please speak up here if KenAdams' idea is something you'd like to see and have any further ideas about how it should work.

While we're here, could we just make a plea to keep this thread on track? We've deleted a few posts already that broke our talk guidelines. It's not fair to derail a thread like this so we'd really like to keep it to just this one discussion about an Asian and/or ethnic minorities board.

And of course, if anyone else has similar ideas for other topics, please do start a thread and the same applies - if there's enough call for something, we'll always consider it.

Thanks, and Friday Flowers to you all.

Can we keep this thread on track? Please. I've only seen a couple of posters genuinely discussing the request for a board.

Those who said what and when is impossible to prove either way when so many posts and entire threads have been deleted.
I stand by this as whole threads have been deleted.

Which threads of mine were deleted please?
Ah, but therein is the problem - entire threads gone, as if by magic. I'm pretty sure there might be screenshots about but I also know that quoting deleted posts or threads is not allowed (and is a bit below the belt, tbh). Oh, and I don't believe I mentioned any particular posters but, hey, if anyone thinks the cap fits then perhaps they'd like to own it?

Are you intent on derailing yet another thread ? Give it up and let the thread get back on track.

Please note I don't think anyone should give details of their age , colour , sexual orientation religion etc unless they want to but I don't know how you could stop someone with malicious intent to not post, if you just police it by saying ppl wont post because they aren't part of the group. I have read enough troll comments to know that some just want to hurt or like the attention.
Saying that people can have experiences (both negative and positive) without being from a certain group, should they be dismissed from the argument.
I am not sure what topics, whilst maybe affecting one group more than others, doesn't actual cross over many boundaries.
Its very complicated and I myself am going round in circles.

YouJustDoYou · 18/09/2020 17:22

Nah, don't need one, thanks.

Ha, like a good laugh first thing in the morning, thank you! 😁😁😁

Weiti · 19/09/2020 17:19

I would really like to see an Asian board or a more broader AME one.

KenAdams · 23/09/2020 16:11

Sorry have been away from this for a few days will read through and then respond to the points raised.

OP posts:
FlyingLoo · 23/09/2020 16:15

Yes please, this is definitely something I would be interested in.

KenAdams · 23/09/2020 16:31

Firstly, I obviously don't have an issue with a black board and don't see why I'm facing such hostility asking for a BAME/AME board. What am I doing wrong by asking?

Here's the thread where the OP repeatedly said she wanted a black, not a BAME board and you'll see my posts on it - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/a4018383-black-section-on-mn. I've attached an image of where I directly asked the OP if AME were welcome and she said no. That's ok, so I've asked for our own board. As PP have stated, Indian people represent a large minority in this country.

There are lots of issues that you have to have an understanding of the culture to be able to properly relate, especially in relation to marriage and families, hence the request for the board. However, I don't need to justify to anyone apart from MNHQ why an AME board is needed, you aren't a jury.

I'm quite saddened at the attacks on this thread. Can I ask people why they felt the need to go out of their way to do that?

"I've attached an image of where I directly asked the OP if AME were welcome and she said no."

Well... that's not true, is it? You asked if the board was to be created for BAME people. Where did you ask if they'd be welcome? They are two very different things, surely you know that Confused

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 23/09/2020 19:37

Also I'm struggling to find all the 'attacks'... you made a half hearted request and then disappeared, and other people continued the discussion. Another poster is very in favour of a place for Indian MNers. Is it that it has to be BAME or else you'll rage quit MN? You're not getting anywhere near as much contention here as Patricks got on her threads. MNHQ even responded to this thread and said they will gauge the interest and go from there. That's a good thing. So instead of combating other posters, why don't you just get a feel for what people actually want and push forward with the idea that is clearly very important to you?

WoobyWoo · 23/09/2020 19:39

Op I’m sorry you weren’t made to feel welcome and I hope you get your new board. It seems that sometimes we thoughtlessly create more divisions by separating people at a time we should all be coming together. Sad

HelpMeFindAName · 24/09/2020 12:31

@KenAdams Thank you for creating this thread.

@MNHQ I second previous posters; please please can we have a board to discuss cultural, societal, racial and religious items of relevance for those people of Asian - Southern, Eastern, Western and Central - heritage? It would also be interesting for anyone else looking to learn more about British Asian culture. With people of Asian heritage comprising a - not insignificant! - 7% of the UK population, I imagine the board would be quite popular.

HelpMeFindAName · 24/09/2020 12:44

*more about Asian British culture even.

PatricksRum · 24/09/2020 12:47

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Oh I'm cracking up!

It's interesting as HQ have emailed me saying I didn't say anyone was not welcome! Wink

Nice try though. Keep clutching at those straws.

Good luck for your board.

SheepandCow · 24/09/2020 12:52

Wondering whether the proposed new board will include Jews under 'ethnic minorities', or should they have their own separate board?

Quaagars · 24/09/2020 13:09

Saddened by the attacks on the thread?
Er, at the risk of sounding 5, you started it by straight away sounding like you wanted an argument and then buggered off.
Like someone just pointed out, MB saying they'll gauge interest is a GOOD thing, so why all the pointless sniping?

Quaagars · 24/09/2020 13:10

MB?! MN, even!

StayCool · 24/09/2020 13:33

In your screenshot I don't see where you directly asked if AME were welcome. Or where you were told no.

AMemeByAnyOtherName · 24/09/2020 13:56

@KenAdams I'm sure it's because you're busy that you're not responding. I also imagine you probably have a stressful job, which is why you're being so confrontational, but rest assured nobody is against you. You've had a lot of support here regardless, even from MN, so well done. And if you find that you can't maintain the campaign for the new space due to time constraints or whatnot, personally I would hand it over to @OhReallyThen , as she has had some very good ideas so far and I think she'll make a great advocate for the new board.

PatricksRum · 24/09/2020 14:45

@StayCool

Quite.
Quaagars · 24/09/2020 15:14

I was a bit confused by that too, as it just linked to the old thread Confused

LastTrainEast · 24/09/2020 15:36

Don't know why people are debating a screenshot when the post is still there and the answer was No to Bame and No to the request to stop referring to white people as one group.

But in the end it's up to MNHQ who post there not one poster so maybe it doesn't matter. There are always clashes between people and you can just ignore them and carry on with what you were doing.
