....glad you like it - it's also a bit like Clap your hands say yeah, which are also great.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 17:04

I was looking up Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, simply because it's a good name - reminded me a bit of something, but can't think who... love the Killers btw

aDad · 23/09/2007 17:27

Always love a good music thread!

I like all that canadian-multiple people on stage thing- arcade fire and clap your hands say yeah. Got to be honest arcade fire's 2nd album just didn't do it quite like the first though.

Got the new Manu Chao album this week, which is really nice and v much in the style of his previous ones.

fawkeoff · 23/09/2007 17:30

anyone loving the plain white t's song
"HEY THERE DELILAH"

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 17:37

Boco - Clap your hands - had a brief listen - reminded me of Talking Heads slightly...

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 17:38

aDad - do you like Caesaria Evora ?

aDad · 23/09/2007 17:40

vocals on clap your hands are v david byrne, it's true.

Never heard of Caesaria Evora. I shall hunt it down if you say it's good.

moondog · 23/09/2007 17:42

I like caesaria very much and have been reading a lot about Manu Chao so think his l;atest album is on my to buy list.
Re milions of people on stage thing, noone did it better than Earth,Wind & Fire (certainly not UB40).

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 17:43

well aDad,that explains it ! yes,Caesaria Evora excellent - thin k you'd like her...

aDad · 23/09/2007 17:44

2 recommendations is enough for me. I will have a tentative listen on itunes and buy it!

aDad · 23/09/2007 17:50

oh and moondog - if you dont have manu chao's clandestino album, I think that's his best really, both musically and lyrically.
And I know it would appeal to the linguist in you, as he switches between French, Spanish and English...

have had a listen to him on iTunes - sounds good to me.
I have a great fondness for Francoise Hardy, speaking of French things...

CatIsSleepy · 23/09/2007 17:52

re arcade fire's second album-I like it but not keen on the church organ-y sound on a couple of the tracks...tend to skip them...

will have to check out Clap your hands and caesaria evora-will be good to hear some new stuff, feel like am in a bit of a rut atm

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 17:53

How about joanna newsom? I love her. Saw her playing with london symphony orchestra - best thing i've ever seen. But lots of people can't stand her.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 18:29

no, don't know her...off to iTunes to see...

southeastastra · 23/09/2007 18:31

did anyone see dave grohl being interviewed last night? he seems to have suddenly got a massive ego. puts me right off them

Boco · 23/09/2007 18:39

Joanna Newsom plays the harp, she has an...unusual voice. I think her music is beautiful.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/09/2007 18:42

no, don't like her voice - slightly Melanie-ish, in that little girl way - would grate on my nerves...

Boco · 23/09/2007 18:48

Oh but you have to give her a chance - at first, everyone says 'oh dear, how awful' - but then they listen and the song writing and music is amazing, and eventually you fall in love with her voice too. She's so sweet - i'll look for a youtube thing..

Wisteria · 23/09/2007 18:49

Mary Anne - we love Arcade Fire - in fact I think they're on my blog - Funeral is the best album though!

Boco · 23/09/2007 18:51

lovely joanna
