Temporary bans for posters continually posting CV stuff on non CV boards

Is this a thing? Can it be?
(accepting your decision that some cv threads are relevant to different topics, but the vast majority aren't)

As I and several other MNers have said, the torrent of threads is affecting MH so we've hidden the CV board to hide the worst of it, but its like some people have a need to force their opinions on the world so are sneaking posts in left right and centre.

I'm really surprised how much all the cv posts have upset me today. This is only the second time I've been on here today (normally addicted..)
I've updated myself via the news but the almost hysteria feeling has been way too much. In fairness many Facebook friends and groups have been dumped today too.

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/03/2020 20:59

Many posters on MN are not in the UK and bring able to talk about what they are going through continues to be a lifeline for them. Particularly those in lockdown situations.

To demand that those posters are silenced is repugnant.

You might want, rather than bleating to HQ about how it's hysteria and you don't like it, read some of the testimonies. And remember that thanks to the UK govt's inaction, that's going to be Britain in ten days time.

Forearmed is forewarned.

forrestgreen · 17/03/2020 20:59

I don't have to read each thread but the fact that active thread lists is pretty much full was what made me put Mumsnet down earlier.

forrestgreen · 17/03/2020 21:00

Nobody is saying people should be silenced, there's a lovely big topic for it. Fill your boots

AlternativePerspective · 17/03/2020 21:01

It has nothing to do with posts being triggering. It has to do with the fact that people’s hysteria is taking over the whole of mn, and believe it or not, there is more out there than coronavirus.

Suspect that once this dies down there will be people who find they don’t have anything to talk about any more.

We need to find a balance, because while CV is scary and unprecedented, life does still go on. People will still have babies, watch television, have conversations with other people, fall out with their MIL’s and friends, perhaps even meet new men over the internet during their periods of isolation for what turns out to be just a cold in some.

Some of the people on that topic need serious help.

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/03/2020 21:05

Do none of you know how to hide topics and threads?

AlternativePerspective · 17/03/2020 21:06

Who said people need to be silenced?

There’s a whole topic for it, although I do think that should all be amalgamated into one thread and the hysteria needs to go.

And why have mnhq not responded to this thread? Thought that was the whole idea of putting threads in site stuff?

It’s surely only a matter of time before the CV hysteria threads start appearing in the DM. MMM maybe that’s the answer. If people feel they’re going to be quoted in the press talking about how it’s interesting that the areas worst affected are the areas with 5G (yes, that was a post) or that the elderly are clogging up the hospital beds so should be locked down, or saying that given the elderly voted for BJ coronavirus is what they deserve, or describing in graphic detail how you die if you die, maybe they’ll think twice.

forrestgreen · 17/03/2020 21:22

That's the point. People aren't on that topic.
Aibu to be upset over cv....

ChicCroissant · 17/03/2020 21:23

I don't see asking to keep all the CV threads in one place as sweeping it under the carpet at all. I avoided the Brexit ones as well. If I wanted a one-topic forum I'd find one.

Having them all in one place doesn't stop anybody who wants to from discussing it.

mogloveseggs · 17/03/2020 21:41

Slightly off topic but how do you hide the whole Coronavirus board please? I'm really struggling with it all

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 18/03/2020 00:11

To demand that those posters are silenced is repugnant.

Making up barefaced lies that really IS repugnant.

Do none of you know how to hide topics and threads?

I (and others) clearly said in my OP that I've hidden the entire topic, so we did our bit. But for one thing, people are posting everywhere outside the board with innocuous/unclear titles, and for another, Trending is still populated with that board regardless, so we also see the more extreme thread titles too.

So nobody is banned yet then?

Did Mnhq do what you wanted?

crapette · 18/03/2020 14:10

@mogloveseggs A very basic google search "mumsnet hide topics threads" will find loads of threads where people are asking the same question. Here are some of the more recent ones:

mogloveseggs · 18/03/2020 20:25

@crapette thank you

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/03/2020 01:07

Sure, prefacing the threads with CV isn't a bad idea for those who insist on living their lives with their fingers in their ears, but banning people?

I think there are too many on here at the moment who won’t be happy until we are all as hysterical and neurotic as they are. 🙄

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 19/03/2020 08:39

Did Mnhq do what you wanted?

I don't get to tell them what to do Grin
I made a suggestion and other people agreed or disagreed with it. @MNHQ will make the final call.

I will say though that posts are being moved out of the wrong topics and into the correct coronavirus one very quickly and almost without exception (although even I can see some are clearly specific and relevant to sub topics so I am also using "ignore thread" where that occurs.)

Many of the report replies refer to "mass reports" so it clearly is a big issue.

forrestgreen · 19/03/2020 10:48

Yep I'm reporting any in chat or Aibu
I'm not using active threads. Just looking at boards
