Introducing AIBU voting

TomMumsnet · 17/06/2019 13:25

Hi all,

We're testing out a new feature on AIBU. From today, a few randomly selected Mumsnet users will be able to access a voting function on AIBU posts.

We're testing the vote function because in user feedback lots of you asked for a quick way to answer an AIBU post (essentially; YABU or YANBU).
The general thinking was that this would encourage more interaction - so we're trying it out from today, let's see how it goes.

It won't show on all AIBU posts but you should see it on a few - and importantly, the OP will be able to turn on (or off) the voting function themselves.

Hopefully you'll find it useful - and as ever, we'd love to hear your feedback - so please give it a try, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Oh, and if you really aren't a fan then no problem, just head over to your Talk preferences and you'll be able to switch off (and back on) the voting feature.

Thanks
MNHQ

I said this on another thread : how about fixing the things that are actually broken or are rubbish before introducing new stuff that lots of people don't want?

CupoTeap · 17/06/2019 15:25

Shouldn't you have put it on this post?

CupoTeap · 17/06/2019 15:28

Erm I can't find any that have it

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 17/06/2019 15:38

YABU! I want it Grin

wildcherries · 17/06/2019 15:42

I'm sure that will go well.

Thesuzle · 17/06/2019 15:45

A no vote from me. At least most people explain their UABU, its what discussion is all about.

jarhead123 · 17/06/2019 15:47

I like the idea! not seen it yet on any posts though

Anothertempusername · 17/06/2019 15:56

Love this. Can I help test :-)

toomuchtooold · 17/06/2019 16:06

Oh no I don't like this. Loads of vulnerable people post on AIBU looking for a bit of backup and at least at the moment if you want to be a dick to them you have to type it out.

Ah, but OP has the choice. Those who have a fairly specific question and want a yes no answer can have it. Those who want an interesting discussion of the pros and cons bunfight can have that. Win win.

I’m liking the isea!

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 17/06/2019 16:14

OP - AIBU? Cos I don't think I am

MN 1 YABU
MN 2 YABVVVU
MN3 VU
MN4 YABU
......
MN 63 YABU

EL8888 · 17/06/2019 16:14

Isea = idea!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 17/06/2019 16:19

Could we also have emoticons as per other social media, such as 'like', 'laugh', 'sad face' that we could attach to specific posts?

Like

Smile Grin Sad Angry Envy Hmm

?

TakeBathsNotDrugs · 17/06/2019 16:20

I don't think it's would stop people who post from posting.

It might give people who want to take part but feel too intimidated to give their answer if they want it.

It's also fully optional so someone in need of emotional back up can choose the not include a vote.

I agree there's many other things that should be done to improve functionality if the site before this but I'm not against a poll option as such.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 17/06/2019 16:24

Ooh, sounds good.

mrswilson2 · 17/06/2019 16:29

I've always thought that would be a good idea

paxillin · 17/06/2019 16:35

Love it. It might ensure only actual AIBUs make it to AIBU. Could even populate other topics, because fewer people will dump stuff in AIBU for traffic.

DisorganisedOrganiser · 17/06/2019 16:35

Love it. I would also like like and dislike buttons.

DoctorDread · 17/06/2019 16:35

Great idea

ScreamingValenta · 17/06/2019 16:39

It seems a bit pointless. If someone wants to give an opinion without elaborating, they only have to type YABU or YANBU. I think it's likely to attract ridiculous troll posts competing for the most YANBUs.

mrsm43s · 17/06/2019 16:49

I would prefer a "like" button for individual posts, not just the OP.

iVampire · 17/06/2019 16:50

this sounds utter pants

Creation of MN royalty?

iVampire · 17/06/2019 16:51

And please no ‘like’ function - yes it might work on other sites, but this isn’t other sites
