MASSIVE ADS halfway down the thread page

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/06/2019 13:33

I don’t know if this is a new thing, i’m sure it’s been done before and wasn’t popular. There are massive ads halfway down the page of threads, it’s very disruptive to the flow and also makes me think it’s the end of the thread. On one thread there was a ad placed straight after the OPs first post, making it appear that there are no other posts on the thread. I am logged in.

OP posts:

And of course, a large moving ad is on this thread too! Will an ad blocker stop this? Bit counter productive though if the ads make us take steps to stop seeing the ads!

fedup21 · 12/06/2019 07:06

The ads are driving me Maddy-please out then somewhere else!

NoWordForFluffy · 12/06/2019 07:12

Can something please be done about the data-eating ads on the mobile site? The clue is in the name; we're on our mobiles and don't want our data used up by shit ads. Keep those for the desktop version. Come on, @MNHQ, you can do WAY better than this.

Reallybadidea · 12/06/2019 08:35

The ads just below the OP are really intrusive and annoying. I've started clicking the x to get rid of it every time, but that's a pita in itself.

daisychicken · 12/06/2019 10:38

Another one hating these massive ads appearing every so many posts. I'm on a mobile device, they disrupt the flow of reading, they are distracting and make me think that there are no more posts. I'm clicking the x everytime, not even viewing the ad so if everyone is doing this.. no one is looking at the advert! Please change this, it's irritating and making me reconsider my Mumsnet use.

Topseyt · 12/06/2019 13:50

Please get rid of these ads. Some of us will consider deserting the site if you can't. They are very intrusive and I suspect people who need advice are not getting as much because of them.

They are very off-putting.

Frusty · 12/06/2019 13:50

This didn’t happen before, so why now? I am trying to click the x to close but sometimes that takes you to the ad instead. SO annoying

Frusty · 12/06/2019 19:05

I’m not feeling that “we’re taking it on board” is much of an answer tbh. If they are here to stay, could you post to let us know?

BillywigSting · 12/06/2019 19:12

Yy to horrible moving ads being very very ott on the mobile site.

Mn used to be somewhere I could browse even if my data was running a bit low, avoiding it completely now unless I'm over WiFi and going to reddit instead.

And please don't just say 'use the mobile app' it's not got half the functionality or ease of use as the mobile site.

@MNHQ this is intrusive and these ads are going to lose you revenue and are not fit for purpose.

Please just get shot of them. You have tried it once before and it backfired. What on earth made you think it would be ok this time?

BillywigSting · 12/06/2019 19:14

They are also interfering with how the site loads and I'm quite frankly getting pissed off with a page not scrolling because it's taking forever to load these obnoxious adverts and find myself just going elsewhere.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 12/06/2019 19:17

Yes, the ads are shit and annoying, and a mistake in my view.

StoorieHoose · 12/06/2019 19:49

Any update on this @AnyaMumsnet? When you implement something that starts costing your users in data don't be surprised at the uprising of the use of ad blockers or people stopping using the site.

PortiaCastis · 12/06/2019 20:49

Also why am I seeing lots and lots of posts in triplicate this evening.

hugoagogo · 12/06/2019 21:16

Ad blocker installed. It is blissful.

BillywigSting · 12/06/2019 22:04

@PortiaCastis I strongly suspect it's the data hungry ads cocking everything up.

Can anyone recommend an ad blocker for Android please?

Frusty · 12/06/2019 22:30

My ad blocker is working beautifully so far Smile

LemonRedwood · 13/06/2019 11:29

Which ad blocker are you all using?

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 13/06/2019 11:56

I just used the first one that came up on the Google play store.

LemonRedwood · 13/06/2019 12:59

Thanks Formerly

Frusty · 13/06/2019 17:08

Mine is Adblock X - that’s for iPhone though.

Persea · 13/06/2019 23:51

@JanineMumsnet - thanks for your reply.
However, the ads did not used to be this big (at least I didn’t recall them being so) and why are they eating data? I assume because they’re not your bog standard banner ad, but are interactive.
Either way, they’re hugely annoying.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/06/2019 00:05

Adblock Plus.

ArthurMc · 14/06/2019 11:01

Still ongoing and so frustrating

ArthurMc · 14/06/2019 11:02

I downloaded the adblocker as suggested by PP but it’s killing my phone battery so I have deleted it.

Pthagonal · 14/06/2019 11:25

I'm now using the Brave browser for Android, which has an inbuilt ad blocker - I can recommend it.
