MASSIVE ADS halfway down the thread page

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/06/2019 13:33

I don’t know if this is a new thing, i’m sure it’s been done before and wasn’t popular. There are massive ads halfway down the page of threads, it’s very disruptive to the flow and also makes me think it’s the end of the thread. On one thread there was a ad placed straight after the OPs first post, making it appear that there are no other posts on the thread. I am logged in.

OP posts:

Yes, really annoying and I don't read as many threads now due to add, and 'accidentally' clicking on the sodding giant ad. Makes me determined NEVER to use those companies, same for annoying though are on TV or radio - ensures that they will not get my business.

InterchangeableEmma · 10/06/2019 23:11

It there seems to be a problem with threads loading since the awful extra ads have appeared too. Photo thumbnails are frequently failing to show as well, just a blank thumbnail there.

I prefer not to use an ad blocker on mn but ffs, I've pretty much reached my limit. The moving adsHmmBiscuit

northerngirl2012 · 10/06/2019 23:14

I’m seeing them after the OP then at the end of the thread, they’re hideous!! Please remove them

northerngirl2012 · 10/06/2019 23:15

And there’s a banner at the top of the screen too. Really awful, are you that hard up for cash?

Persea · 10/06/2019 23:40

I was actually going to start a thread about this as it’s so bloody annoying.
I don’t want a massive bloody ad right after the Op’s post.
Please HQ rethink this as it’s actually putting me off logging on.

LemonRedwood · 10/06/2019 23:43

Like a PP, I wondered why there were SO many one-post threads in active before I realised all the responses were under the bloody great ad.

Very, very annoying. Please change it back.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/06/2019 23:44

I think it’s quite insensitive to post a massive ad after an OPs first post considering the OP could be posting about something very upsetting.

OP posts:
LemonRedwood · 10/06/2019 23:45

Ha, and I just previewed my post and then there was a whacking huge advert between the preview and the post button. Makes the site more difficult to use.

Topseyt · 10/06/2019 23:54

I hate these. They ruin the site and are definitely NOT an improvement.

Please get rid of them. Return the rules to what they were previously.

sleepwhenidie · 10/06/2019 23:58

Oh THAT’s why I’m suddenly using all my data allowance every month after never getting close before Angry! Time to get off MN then. Shame.

MrsCollinssettled · 11/06/2019 00:07

It's the difficulty you have in trying to scroll past them without opening up the ad that bugs me. Really irritating when the ad opens up and ensures I won't consider buying the product.

FeminismandWomensFights · 11/06/2019 03:05

Another one here who thought it was something wrong with my browser. I particularly dislike the advert straight after the OP because I immediately assume that’s the end of the thread. Very disorientating and intrusive to break up threads like this
Also you and your advertisers may be interested to know these ads often take so long to load that they just appear to me as a completely blank square. So I have no idea what the ad is for. This is irritating from my perspective as the user who provides the content and from the point of view of the advertiser, worrying because they probably paid a lot of money to advertise on MN.

Monty27 · 11/06/2019 03:17

Glad it's not just me. FFS it's more than jarring. It's an insult.
If I want to find out about something on the internet I'm quite capable of doing it all by myself. Thank you but no thank you Angry

Topseyt · 11/06/2019 03:25

Please get rid of them. I can hardly scroll past without accidentally clicking on them, which I find infuriating.

IHeartArya · 11/06/2019 07:15

I wondered why I was so close to my data allowance

It’s awful - no point annoying your core users

HandsOffMyRights · 11/06/2019 07:19

I initially thought there was just one post on a couple of threads because the ad appeared, so I didn't scroll down.

So annoying and puts me off the advertiser.

0blio · 11/06/2019 08:03

Where did my screenshot go? It showed a massive ad completely covering the first post on a thread.
Like others I keep opening threads and thinking there haven't been any replies to the OP as there's an ad in the way.
I'd be grateful if someone could recommend a good ad blocker please - I'd be happy to pay for one.

SparklyMagpie · 11/06/2019 09:01

No response as usual, I see 🙄

PortiaCastis · 11/06/2019 09:07

Yes could we please have some sort of response as to why our screenshots are disappearing and why were seeing the large ads straight after the OP, because if there's a problem we're always asked for a screenshot but we've given them before you've asked and now they're nowhere to be seen.

BillywigSting · 11/06/2019 09:08

@MNHQ are you going to respond to this thread and can you actually justify this quite frankly ludicrous move?

AnyaMumsnet · 11/06/2019 11:18

Hi there all,

Thank you all so much for your feedback, it's really valuable and we'll take it on board. Flowers Please be assured we are reading the thread.

The screenshots disappearing issue is a separate sitewide issue, that we're currently looking into.

InterchangeableEmma · 11/06/2019 20:11

It is not getting any less irritating with time.

Warmhandscoldheart · 11/06/2019 22:52

Please sort this out, it's annoying and b___y frustrating.

DameSquashalot · 11/06/2019 22:55

It's really annoying. I kept thinking there were no posts after the OP

Frusty · 12/06/2019 07:03

There are ads at the top, and ads at the bottom, and now ones in the middle? I’d rather pay for an ad free mumsnet to be honest. Moving ads are very distracting and if I’m distracted I’m not spending as much time reading threads on here.
