MASSIVE ADS halfway down the thread page

SinisterBumFacedCat · 10/06/2019 13:33

I don’t know if this is a new thing, i’m sure it’s been done before and wasn’t popular. There are massive ads halfway down the page of threads, it’s very disruptive to the flow and also makes me think it’s the end of the thread. On one thread there was a ad placed straight after the OPs first post, making it appear that there are no other posts on the thread. I am logged in.

OP posts:
PortiaCastis · 10/06/2019 19:12

Vanished from my post too, what's going on MNHQ?

Fairyjuice · 10/06/2019 19:19

My ads are appearing under the first post too, it's so annoying and I keep thinking I've reached the end of the thread Angry

TheBullshitGoesOn · 10/06/2019 19:27

Annoying. Please get rid of them.

SparklyMagpie · 10/06/2019 19:32

So now screenshots are disappearing Hmm

I think I have had enough of this site now

ceeveebee · 10/06/2019 19:34

To be honest although it is annoying, Mumsnet is not a charity and has to make money somehow. I’d rather scroll past the odd ad than have to pay a subscription...

SarahTancredi · 10/06/2019 19:34

I keep getting ads after the first post. It makes you think theres no responses its horrible.

bebeboeuf · 10/06/2019 19:35

It took me a while to realise there were responses under the ads

I’m getting used to it now

I understand the site needs to run financially

SparklyMagpie · 10/06/2019 19:36

I'd rather pay a subscription than have the odds tbh.

Desmondo2016 · 10/06/2019 19:37

I font even remember there being ads before. This new way is horrendous!

QueenBeex · 10/06/2019 19:40

I can see this too, makes it look like there's only the OPs comment on the entire thread, but then I realised I could press X in the corner of the ad and it disappears Grin

InterchangeableEmma · 10/06/2019 19:46

This was implemented and removed just over a month ago. Why on earth has it been brought back? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/3573016-Giant-jumpy-ads-in-the-middle-of-threads

IWantMyHatBack · 10/06/2019 19:48

Testing...

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 10/06/2019 19:53

To be honest although it is annoying, Mumsnet is not a charity and has to make money somehow.

Didn't they make like 2million in profit last year (or the year before, I forget). Let's not pretend this is about "keeping the lights on" like they so often like to imply.

Fairylea · 10/06/2019 19:55

Absolutely dreadful Sad

Pthagonal · 10/06/2019 19:57

I keep getting ads after the first post on every page, and I'm logged in. (Chrome on Android). Could @MNHQ confirm whether or not I should be seeing them? If I shouldn't, I'll be reinstalling an ad blocker.

TheEagle · 10/06/2019 19:59

Agreed, it’s so hard to see whether threads are finished or not.

Hate ads. Never used an ad blocker on my mobile; are they any good?

WhoAreThey · 10/06/2019 20:00

Also hating the ads in the middle of threads. Left loads of threads today thinking no one had replied before I realised the ad after the first post was in the way

itsabongthing · 10/06/2019 20:02

I just thought there was an issue with the site as all the threads I clicked on in active looked like they didn’t have any replies!
But no, it was just the huge adverts that herd to only be at the bottom of the page. Not a fan! And definitely don’t look at them they’re so annoying!

itsabongthing · 10/06/2019 20:05

See I’m not alone. But it made me stop reading loads of threads and go off the page/site which is surely not the desired outcome?

BillywigSting · 10/06/2019 20:07

Not at all suspicious that all of the screenshots are dissappearing Hmm

guiltynetter · 10/06/2019 20:19

I hate this, so many threads today I've thought there are no replies. it's awful. makes me not want to use mumsnet. if much rather them be half way down a thread.

0blio · 10/06/2019 21:12

I can't even read the first post!

NoWordForFluffy · 10/06/2019 22:20

I've galloped through data the last couple of months because of these moving ads; I'm sick of it, quite frankly.

And these ads in threads? Awful. Talk about ruining the whole damn thing.

IWantMyHatBack · 10/06/2019 22:57

So all the screenshots of the problem have now vanished? This is just bizarre. What's happening,
@JanineMumsnet ? @MNHQ ?

MakeLemonade · 10/06/2019 23:02

Absolutely awful UX to have ads after first post and be running moving ones on a mobile site. Surely there is a balance between making money and not ruining your baseline product? And if your advertising is going to be so intrusive then you need a premium subscription offer that will offer an ad free experience or you’ll end up losing users completely or your site will be unusable without ad blocker. Neither of which are commercially good options for you.
