Adverts stalling browser

Does anyone else have an issue with certain adverts stalling their MN on browser? I've found "Very" adverts (which I regularly block) and now "Supercalifragilistic" advert at the top of the screen completely bungs up to the extent I have to go and do something else or keep pressing wait (There is something wrong with this page...)

Can't take a screenshot as it won't happen whilst these ads are on.

Regularly clean cache etc. Samsung - generic browser.

Three attempts to type this whilst that Supercali advert has jammed my browser...grrrr

Hi there OP,

Thanks for getting in touch about this. Can we ask which device and browser you're using to access Mumsnet?

oldsilver · 01/03/2019 18:08

Thank you.

Samsung phone, generic browser. Very advert I can blue cross it which lasts a few days. The Mary Poppins one is a Quantcast one, can't work out how to stop it- no blue cross.

It jams screen, cant refresh, go to another tab, screengrab - just jams the browser until the ad moves on.

I hope this helps Smile

Managed to get this just as it happened - every time with this advert!

Same problem here with the Mary Poppins advert, freezes the page. Android with chrome here.

LouMumsnet · 01/03/2019 22:03

Thanks for clarifying. We'll flag this up with our ad team and hopefully have an update for you soon.

ShowOfHands · 02/03/2019 17:27

I'm getting exactly the same. Android mobile site on a generic browser. Just seizes up and I have to reload it to wake it up. Didn't realise it was an ad issue.

oldsilver · 02/03/2019 19:06

I just assumed it was an ad issue as it is always the same ads when it happens.

The Very one since Christmas - I'm sure I mentioned on another Site Stuff thread back then it was happening.

It's reassuring to know it's not only me though.

I never look at the ads but it's just happened and I made a note. It was the Mary Poppins one. It is a pain. The whole thing locks. Took me ages to get off the page.

DeltaFlyer · 03/03/2019 12:22

I get the same with an Irish Times advert. It's very frustrating

CanadianJohn · 04/03/2019 02:23

I use an ad blocker (sorry, MN) and I notice Mumsnet is VERY slow, to the point that I click on a thread, and then go do something else while the page loads.

IE on a desktop

ThreadKillerSleepsInACoil · 04/03/2019 22:48

Still happening here, only freezing on the Mary Poppins ad, although some others slow the page loading.

Also still getting the black blank spaces occasionally... That issue's been going on since September, any chance of a fix?!

oldsilver · 05/03/2019 06:11

Yup, had it happen a couple of times myself. Tried to post at the time but failed because of the ad.

Yes, I'm using Chrome and for a few days pages don't load properly with small 'sending request' message at bottom of screen.

oldsilver · 05/03/2019 16:10

Still - twice in 5 minutes now

Hi there all,

We've tried to replicate this at MNHQ and have had no luck, so we're not 100% sure whether it's an ads issue or something else. We are still looking into it, but if you notice any trends or any information that might be helpful to us, do let us know.

oldsilver · 05/03/2019 16:49

It's happened another two times since my last post. Reading a thread (any thread) , move cursor down - it starts to judder then stop, and the Mary Poppins advert starts to emerge at the top. Then comes the message (like in the screen shots) at the bottom.

Other adverts tend to flash up and stay gor a few moments. This just sort of emerges.

If I am typing (say to post this) type on the keyboard, then it slows to nothing as I type - advert emerges then unresponsive message appears.

~for

Apologies - typing quick as will lose message if this ad appears.

This is the advert that causes my browser to crash. Always this advert. Using a Samsung galaxy a3

I always get the webpage has become unresponsive message then look up and notice the same advert

oldsilver · 05/03/2019 18:31

Snap!!!

DeltaFlyer · 05/03/2019 18:33

I realise now its a the Mary poppins ad. I don't usually pay attention to ad banner

DeltaFlyer · 05/03/2019 18:35

I can get back to scrolling the page if I click close rather than wait or x

ShowOfHands · 05/03/2019 18:36

Yep. Exactly that. For me, I'm usually scrolling and it judders to a stop like I've reached the end of the page but actually, half the page is missing. Then it does nothing for around 20 seconds as if it's frozen. Then the same "this page has become unresponsive" message. I have to click "close" to get away as it doesn't unfreeze with time. Always that advert.

DeltaFlyer · 05/03/2019 18:38

That advert is a nuisance. All other adverts come and go with no issue
