I keep getting redirected to a spam ‘FB gifts’ thing?

Morning.

As of about 10 minutes ago, every couple of clicks I keep getting redirected to some spammy ‘Congratulations you’ve won!’ page on Facebook? I’m just clicking on the usual MN navigation buttons, nothing weird. My device doesn’t have any viruses.

iPhone 6S
Safari
Mobile version
IOS 12.1.4

I’ve attached screenshots of the of the pages I keep redirecting to. It started on a multiples thread (also pictured).

Me too. I’m worried about security when stuff like this happens.

whatashower · 28/02/2019 12:54

elloelloello Yes it is the same thing, well spotted. Not clear if we have all triggers this only by visiting a Newsquest site but they suggest to close down browser/ restart device

Karigan195 · 28/02/2019 12:56

I was too but double clicked to clear page. Cleared history and it hasn’t done it since.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 28/02/2019 12:57

Me too.

iPhone too

user1469530553 · 28/02/2019 13:00

Yep, still happening

whatashower · 28/02/2019 13:10

Close your browser. Restart your device. I dont think you need to clear your history/cookies if you dont want to ( if that is incorrect, I apologise).

howdoyoukeepawaveuponthesand · 28/02/2019 13:13

Been happening to me loads. Seems to be getting worse

Yutes · 28/02/2019 13:16

Me too.

whatashower · 28/02/2019 13:17

If you have visited ANY Newsquest website recently - of which there are many - this is likely to be the cause.

There are many local news sites but I am just going to assume you all visited the Daily Fail and you have brought this on yourselves* 🤣

*note it happened to me too. 😀

Notmymonkeys · 28/02/2019 13:18

Same here. Every time I try to open a thread now.

elloelloello · 28/02/2019 13:26

I’m on my iPhone on Safari.

I’ve shut down and restarted but the first thread I clicked on it did it again

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 28/02/2019 13:29

MagentaRocks · 28/02/2019 13:30

I get a sky win one when I click on threads, very annoying.

I keep getting redirected to a spam ‘FB gifts’ thing?
whatashower · 28/02/2019 13:32

Fair play, spoke too soon, apologies. I will ask Mumsnet to remove my advice, I guess we will be told to clear history. It is your browser though.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/02/2019 13:37

Me too. It's driving me insane.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 28/02/2019 13:41

It has just started happening for me too. I thought I’d clicked on an ad by mistake the first time then I seen this thread has happened twice now.
Saphari on and iPhone X

Flashinggreen · 28/02/2019 13:46

Me too, but also on a local paper website, and keyboard playing up

whatashower · 28/02/2019 13:47

This breaking news article spotted by elloelloello confirms that it is a browser issue triggered by Newsquest server.

www.uknip.co.uk/2019/02/newsquest-websites-comprised-by-major-security-breach/

I have closed my browser and device, and now also deleted my history and for me at least this appears to have solved the problem.

Flashinggreen · 28/02/2019 13:52

If I clear history it also clears data, does that mean I’ll have to resign into everything and be a real pain? Might just stay off MN...

Aberforthsgoat · 28/02/2019 14:10

Cleared mine and it’s still doing it, getting worse
I’ve turned off and restarted as well

Flashinggreen · 28/02/2019 14:42

Mine is all good now, on here and local paper.
