To think members of the feminism chat forum shouldn't be allowed to have threads that contradict their transphobic views removed from the forum?

Twice now a thread has been started about prominent lesbians opposing transphobia and twice members of the forum have engineered derailing tactics that have resulted in MN taking the thread down.

OP posts:
SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 19/12/2018 13:11

Oh, the OP doesn't seem to be in any hurry to explain a little more about the content of the threads in question, or to justify their sweeping generalisation about other posters.

I'm really surprised by that 🤔

VickyEadie · 19/12/2018 13:13

Goady fuckery Thread III.

ViragoKnows · 19/12/2018 13:13

Prominent lesbians?

How are you defining “lesbian”?

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 19/12/2018 13:14

but strangely no one seems to expect gay men to have sex with transmen. I wonder why that is?

Some do. There was a report recently of a trans man being removed from a gay sauna, as oddly enough the gay men in there did not wish to engage in vaginal coitus. They're clearly just as bigoted and transphobic as the lesbians who don't want to be penetrated by a penis. Hmm

GCAcademic · 19/12/2018 13:18

Me, I suspect it might have been the goady fucker who suggested Prosecco's day is done and it's time for Babycham to make a comeback - MNHQ stepped in to head off the inevitable bunfight and so they bloody well should.

That was me, I’m afraid. Mea culpa. I will go away and think about what I did. Huge apologies to all. Xmas Grin

ThatWouldBeNO · 19/12/2018 13:23

So this is a TAATAATAAT?

Verv · 19/12/2018 13:26

Hello,

Prominent lesbian here.

I'm attracted to women.
Adult human females.

I am not attracted to the inherent masculinity of trans women, neither am I ever going to be convinced that a dick is a birth defect akin to a cleft palate (a tactic which has been widely used while trying to force gay women to share their bodies with trans women by calling them phobic bigoted TERFs)

I have become increasingly "transphobic" because I absolutely despise the entitlement, the pressure, the sexually forceful and the downright patriarchal demands regarding who I permit into my vagina.
Its patriarchal masculinity at its most toxic and I resent it entirely.

Not to mention the grooming of children into the trans sphere by the likes of mermaids et al.
Cant vote, cant drink, cant have sex, cant watch certain films, but are fine to push towards mutilation and sterility because heaven forbid having a masculine lesbian daughter or an effeminate gay son.

NOPE.
Not today thank you.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2018 13:27

Anyway, re the deletion message if it's the thread I'm thinking of, it wasn't a 'bunfight', there was widespread agreement on which cheese to serve with Xmas cake (Wensleydale, as I pointed out first) and some minor disagreements on trifle (trying to resist 'trifling' and failing)

ViragoKnows · 19/12/2018 13:28

Wensleydale with Christmas Cake?

UpstartCrow · 19/12/2018 13:28

Women on the Feminist Chat forum have objected to posts that contravene The Equality Act, are homophobic, and promote gay conversion therapy.

Don't be surprised if they are removed, they leave Mumsnet open to the risk of litigation.

HopeMumsnet · 19/12/2018 13:30

Hi all,
We're just going to move this to Site Stuff and take a look from there.

PositivelyPERF · 19/12/2018 13:31

Mea culpa. I will go away and think about what I did. Huge apologies to all.

I should bloody well think so. I was completely triggered by that suggestion and you made me feel unsafe. It was literal violence against Prosecco drinkers! You....you...Proseccophobe!

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 19/12/2018 13:32

OP not back yet? How utterly surprising.

HopeMumsnet · 19/12/2018 13:48

Hi all,
To clarify, the first thread was deleted for being a bit of a 'bunfight'. MNers will know that that's a bit of a catch-all term that we use when threads feature goadiness and scrapping and just aren't really helping anyone.
The second was deleted for being a TAAT. If we are to follow that logic, this thread should also go but we will leave it up a while longer so that people have the chance to see this post.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2018 13:59

threads feature goadiness

I doubt I'm the only person who reckons the intent of that thread was to be goady and inflammatory. It was followed by an accusation of 'spreading lies' (or words to that effect) though without specifics so again, hard to detect any motive other than to goad.

RatRolyPoly · 19/12/2018 14:04

I didn't see these threads what with having hidden fwr and all... I just wanted to make two observations. Firstly;

Sexual orientation is a protected characteristic.

To a pp, I don't think this means what you think it means.

Secondly, whenever there's a thread about crpss-dressing men there are enough women posting saying they wouldn't like it "because, you know, I'm STRAIGHT".

Make of that what you will.

ShotsFired · 19/12/2018 14:04

hard to detect any motive other than to goad.

The one where they post deliberately offensive bilge to get cool screenshots for their little propaganda machine?

(although I suppose that could be goady as well)

RatRolyPoly · 19/12/2018 14:11

Actually I'll elaborate. I think people's sexual orientation (sexual as in who they want to have sex with) is more complicated than mere biological sex. Which in unsurprisingly, as the relationship between sex and gender is really quite complex and interdependent. Some people are attracted only to people who appear to be of the same/opposite sex and some people are attracted to people who have the anatomy of the same/opposite sex. And for some people it's a combination of the two with various levels of importance placed on either.

And that's quite reasonable really; people are complicated beings, and so is who we're attracted to.

This doesn't have to turn into a row with accusations of homophobia from one extreme and transphobia from the other, so long as we all speak only of the broad spectrum of experiences and no-one tries to claim certain terminology exclusively for themselves. Because that's when "phobia" does start to creep into it.

Excellent title!

UpstartCrow · 19/12/2018 14:17

Lesbians are not 'an extreme'.
Trying to destroy The Equality Act is like sawing off the tree branch that you are sitting on and taking us all down with you.

MadgeMidgerson · 19/12/2018 14:17

Cool cool, so just don’t expect words to have meanings - if we expect lesbian to mean a specific same sex attraction this is phobic and completely ignores the fact that lesbian can also mean:

Argentina
Potato
boredom
ennui (note boredom is NOT ennui, it is phobic to conflate them)
Quince

and in fact lesbian does mean anything- it’s a sexual orientation, it’s a noun, a verb, an adjective, furniture, a cuisine and chemical element AND MORE

ErrolTheDragon · 19/12/2018 14:17

no-one tries to claim certain terminology exclusively for themselves.

But certain terminology is, by its nature and purpose, supposed to be specific and non inclusive, it's meaningless otherwise. People not within the original meaning appropriating a term are out of order. But of course, it's way beyond mere words.

hazeyjane · 19/12/2018 14:17

I suspect it might have been the goady fucker who suggested Prosecco's day is done and it's time for Babycham to make a comeback

I like a babycham. Christmas cake and cheese can fuck right off though

MadgeMidgerson · 19/12/2018 14:18

my lesbianism will include tungsten or it will be bullshit
