Advanced search on an iPad - choosing topics

SoupDragon · 05/07/2018 09:00

How are you meant to choose specific topics to search for?

I’m sure it used to work - you’d select topics from a list on the left and move them to the link used” list on the right. Ridiculously cumbersome but it used to work. For ages (and I mean ages!) now you’ve not been able to move the chosen topics over to the “included” list. Am I missing something?

Is there any point bumping this ?

Hi there SoupDragon

What's the problem you'd like looked at? Is it the main issue in the opening post or this one: 'sometimes I use advanced search and the entire page of results is unclickable, including all standard links.'

Do let us know and we'll chase it with tech.

Both. A working search function would be nice.

Probably not worth chasing Tech, clearly they run away really fast and are good at hiding. You've been chasing them for months Wink

🙄

ThunderStorms · 28/12/2018 13:56

I can’t even find advanced search anymore.

BrokenWing · 28/12/2018 14:13

I gave up on the MN search on ipad and use google advance search with site:mumsnet.com/talk instead. You cant included/exclude topics but can include/exclude words, sort by date etc.

SoupDragon · 28/12/2018 15:09

What a surprise. No comment from MNHQ in yet another month.

It's pointless.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 28/12/2018 15:10

You cant included/exclude topics

Just like crappy advanced search then 😂

It can't be that hard to have a search function that actually works.

It seems there is much of MN which no longer functions, certainly if you use Safari and the desktop site. I do wonder if they just want us to use the horrid mobile site or the app (even worse), and so no longer support the desktop site. If so, they should at least tell us, like Microsoft (and any other reputable organisation) do.

SoupDragon · 29/12/2018 18:10

I'm just concerned that Anya has been chasing Tech since September. They must both be knackered.

OP posts:
Jux · 29/12/2018 18:26

I think Tech stole all the gin and is lying comatose under a bush - she'll never find her!

I've just ASed myself and it worked in its normal awful clunky way. Frankly, I think they should chuck the AS code in its entirety and rewrite it from scratch, anyway. The choosing topics, and then moving them across is just pointless.

But actually I think the problems people are having with just being able to type a post are more urgent.

ThunderStorms · 29/12/2018 18:42

I hate mobile sites! Just want a functioning website!

It’s really noticeable having gone away and returned how the site is no longer geared to the user (and much worse) and more geared towards the advertisers. But it’s counter productive and drives people like me off the site again.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/01/2019 20:21

Just a quick bump while I’m in site stuff. I don’t suppose this has been fixed yet has it?

SoupDragon · 27/01/2019 16:44

Of course it hasn't, neither issue has. They don't care.

I've just had another search that results in page thats totally unclickable - this problem is even more irritating than my original one.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 27/01/2019 16:46

What I don't understand is why they pretend to be "looking into" some of these problems at all.

I came on to raise just this issue. Using the app on an iPad. Search is a bit rubbish tbh but glad it is being addressed MNHQ

SoupDragon · 02/02/2019 19:40

It isn't being addressed. It's being ignored.

Tumbleweed

Hi there all,

We know it's not quite what you want to hear but please rest assured we are still investigating this - we've given it a nudge now.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2019 07:34

One month later, tumbleweed tumbles through the thread, picking up dust, fluff and the crushed dreams of thousands...

🤔

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 20/05/2019 12:27

Any chance of actually fixing this rather than messing about with tabs on "active". Why mess with stuff that isn't broken if you won't fix the stuff that is?

OP posts:
AnyaMumsnet · 20/05/2019 12:54

Hi there @SoupDragon,

We're really sorry about this - we're going to chase it up and see where it's at again now.
