The Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: let’s raise some money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in honour of CatThiefKeith

Hello all,

A merry December 1 to you all: to kick off the Christmas season (sorry but there’s just no avoiding it any longer) we’re pleased to announce the launch of this year’s Mumsnet Christmas fundraiser.

As some of you will hopefully remember, last Christmas you all raised money for Women’s Aid and Refuge, and we at MNHQ doubled the donations.

This year we’ll be raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in honour of CatThiefKeith, a huge character much beloved of her fellow MNers (and of MNHQ), who died suddenly earlier this year.

As with last year’s appeal, we’ll double donations up to £10,000.

We know this is an expensive time of year, but any donation at all will be greatly appreciated and WILL make a difference.

We’ll keep you updated with running totals and we’ll also host a guest post from MRF.

I nearly died as a very young baby of meningococcal meningitis with septicaemia, I spent several months including my first Christmas in hospital and have been left with life long medical issues because of it, 21 years later my father died of bacterial meningitis (and bacterial pneumonia)

This is very close to my heart because it has had such a big impact on mine and my family's lives.

For us and for CatThiefKeith I'll donate.

Done. My son contracted pneumococcal meningitis and septicaemia at 8 months old in 2016. A complication from it meant he ended up having open heart surgery at 10 months old. I had a couple of threads in chat at the time which gave me a lot of support. This is a cause close to my heart.

Fabulous choice. They did so much to support us when my brother passed away from Men B. Greatly thanks to their hard work we now have the Men B vaccine and I'm so glad both my DC have had this vaccine.

My father died aged 52 of meningococcal septicaemia - although more common in babies and teenagers, it can take anyone of any age, where it often isn't diagnosed until it's too late. Excellent choice of charity.

Done! So glad this has been arranged in CatThiefKeith's memory. My dad contracted pneumococcal meningitis and septicaemia at the age of 84 and we very nearly lost him, so this is very close to my heart.

Really great thing to do... bit confused though why the target on the website is only £3,000 when you're doubling up to £10,000???? Surely the target should be £10,000? or even more given the power and generosity of Mumsnetters.....
