The Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: let’s raise some money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in honour of CatThiefKeith

Hello all,

A merry December 1 to you all: to kick off the Christmas season (sorry but there’s just no avoiding it any longer) we’re pleased to announce the launch of this year’s Mumsnet Christmas fundraiser.

As some of you will hopefully remember, last Christmas you all raised money for Women’s Aid and Refuge, and we at MNHQ doubled the donations.

This year we’ll be raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in honour of CatThiefKeith, a huge character much beloved of her fellow MNers (and of MNHQ), who died suddenly earlier this year.

As with last year’s appeal, we’ll double donations up to £10,000.

We know this is an expensive time of year, but any donation at all will be greatly appreciated and WILL make a difference.

Please have a look at this page for more information about the Meningitis Research Foundation and what they do.

We’ll keep you updated with running totals and we’ll also host a guest post from MRF.

Please click here to donate if you can. We’re looking forward to helping MRF this Christmas and we’re especially happy we can do so in CTK’s honour.

Thanks for reading everyone - wishing you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Thanks Xmas Smile
Justine

Well done, Aghaidh. Smile

BrownTurkey · 18/12/2017 09:55

Thanks Mumsnet and CatThiefKeith. Love that CatThiefKeith now comes up on my autocorrect.

cozietoesie · 18/12/2017 12:37

I miss her being around.

SpecialAgentDaleCooper · 19/12/2017 08:10

Done

I was only thinking of CatTheifKeith yesterday, remembering the randomness of her threads.

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 19/12/2017 16:09

Am I the only one that thinks the response to this appeal has been a bit underwhelming so far?

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 16:14

People are worried about money, I guess.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 16:30

Seadragon maybe the appeal was only started on 1st December and some people's paydays may not have arrived yet. I agree with cozietoesie that so close to Christmas it's always a bit of a difficult time moneywise.

I always think, with these appeals when we've lost somebody, I've given £x amount but how much would I give to have that person back and it surprises me how much people mean to me. I wouldn't have given to this campaign at this time without CatThiefKeith.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 16:31

Oh. That paragraph sounds really silly reading it back. Please ignore it. Blush

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 16:32

It doesn't sound silly. Smile

Seadragonusgiganticusmaximus · 19/12/2017 16:37

No issues at all with someone who has given what they can afford even if it's just a few pounds. But it often seems that there are quite a few Mumsnetters that are pretty well off but they don't seems to have found this thread. A pity given it's both a good cause and in memory of someone who was very well liked here.

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 17:01

Yes, it's a pity. But Hey Ho. (170 supporters so far. Smile)

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 17:22

Thanks cozie, it sort of popped out of my thoughts and I'd pressed send very quickly.

Pondering this... perhaps, we need to make this thread a bit more bunfighty? People like bunfighty threads and it may attract the wealthy (not fibbing) posters to swarm in and divert off to the donating link. I'll start...

I've not mentioned this on any other thread but as this one doesn't get much traffic I feel safe saying it here... I've been having an affair for, ooh about five and half years now. He's a lot older than me. We sneak off for cups of tea every week and indulge in sweet nothing chatter and kisses... he has all his own teeth so that's good. Grin

AIBU to carry on er... carrying on?

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 17:45

Norty witch. Grin

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 17:46

Sorry. Witch.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 17:49

Shock >>> \o/ slaps cozie (not very hard) for personal attack

I haven't much imagination unfortunately. That was the best I could come up with.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 17:51

Umm... ... He's married and has been for about 40 or 50 years and we were thinking of having a babeeee together but I'll have to get a move on because even though he will always make me look young, I'm knocking on at 48 and we might have to have fertility drugs. And he'd need to have a snip-reversal but I'm sure that will be fine. Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 17:53

Do you think I could pass the twins off as my husband's? Or should I leave him and set up home with OM? We could move into a Premier Inn, they do 'family rooms'...

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 19:28

I just read this thread. Sad

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 19/12/2017 19:50

I hadn't seen that thread; it's awful, isn't it? :(

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 20:14

The poor family. Sad

cozietoesie · 19/12/2017 20:51

And a brave person to come on and guest post.

cozietoesie · 20/12/2017 22:47

184 supporters now. Smile

BojanaMumsnet · 21/12/2017 12:26

Hi everyone,

Thanks very, very much to everyone who has donated - we're really pleased to say we've (almost) hit our target! We've raised £2,999.27 so far, so we'll increase the target to £4,000 and hope we can raise even more money for this brilliant charity Xmas Smile

Thanks again for supporting our appeal, we're grateful for every £1 given. Flowers

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 21/12/2017 12:59

Eeek... I'd forgotten all that cringey trolling attempt to drum up business from the other day. Sorry, sorry, sorry... ShockBlush

cozietoesie · 21/12/2017 13:34

No need to say sorry, Witch! Grin
