The Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: let’s raise some money for the Meningitis Research Foundation in honour of CatThiefKeith

Hello all,

A merry December 1 to you all: to kick off the Christmas season (sorry but there’s just no avoiding it any longer) we’re pleased to announce the launch of this year’s Mumsnet Christmas fundraiser.

As some of you will hopefully remember, last Christmas you all raised money for Women’s Aid and Refuge, and we at MNHQ doubled the donations.

This year we’ll be raising money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, in honour of CatThiefKeith, a huge character much beloved of her fellow MNers (and of MNHQ), who died suddenly earlier this year.

As with last year’s appeal, we’ll double donations up to £10,000.

We know this is an expensive time of year, but any donation at all will be greatly appreciated and WILL make a difference.

Please have a look at this page for more information about the Meningitis Research Foundation and what they do.

We’ll keep you updated with running totals and we’ll also host a guest post from MRF.

Please click here to donate if you can. We’re looking forward to helping MRF this Christmas and we’re especially happy we can do so in CTK’s honour.

Thanks for reading everyone - wishing you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.

Thanks Xmas Smile
Justine

My DD, now 7 weeks old, developed neonatal meningitis and was hospitalised for the first 2 weeks of her life. We are still recovering from the effects of this horrible disease and just so thankful she recovered.
A cause close to my heart, I have donated and shared on Facebook also X

Could you including 'in honour of CatThiefKeith in the title? It might motivate more people to donate to this worthy cause.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 03/12/2017 20:03

That's a good idea.

@loveyouradvice

Really great thing to do... bit confused though why the target on the website is only £3,000 when you're doubling up to £10,000???? Surely the target should be £10,000? or even more given the power and generosity of Mumsnetters.....

Hello

You're quite right, we really want to hit £10k - but the advice in fundraising (as far as we know - some of you may know better!) is to start with a lower, more achievable target and then raise it if you're lucky enough to hit the lower target.

I think the idea is that £10k looks pretty overwhelming and individual donors may not feel that their £5 (or however much they're able to give) will make much of an impact on a target that large.

(Please rest assured that we very much treasure every £5 donated, and indeed every £1 donated)

Thanks to all who've chipped in so far!

I'd missed what happened to CTK and only just seen it now. How horribly sad. I know I didn't really know her but I feel like she was such a big part of the mumsnet family and a name I often saw and recognised, with posts that always made me smile. Much love to all her friends and family and I will donate later. Well done mumsnet for choosing this charity in her name.
