The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

I've reported posts recently and had no reply at all.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 25/08/2017 17:12

Ignoring the tangent...!!

Thanks for the earlier feedback Justine, I think communication is key with most things and the changes you mentioned are welcome.

Just one other thing that would make a big difference would be an automated email if you've been suspended - just an acknowledgement with an email link to MNHQ for the recipient to respond to contained within.

MadMags · 25/08/2017 17:13

Oh dear.

PandorasXbox · 25/08/2017 17:14

I know she's unhappy about a certain poster ( probably more than one ) and didn't like the way HQ dealt with things surrounding that poster. But it's tough shit. If you don't like the way a forum is run there's cock all you can do about it other than suck it up or leave.

I am not on Reddit but I initially lurked and saw some other the things that Niffler said about MN and that's her prerogative but why come back?

Anyway looks like she's gone now.

Saucery · 25/08/2017 17:16

Is that the new fast and reactive approach to trolls at work so soon? Impressively speedy.

endehors · 25/08/2017 17:20

It's a cockroach wearing a tie at a complaints desk made out of a cardboard box. It's very silly. It was intended in fun I think.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/08/2017 17:23

Thanks very much Justine

Re low level trolling, goadyfuckng, bitchplopping - it's on the increase, so I report them.

BIWI · 25/08/2017 17:24

Fun? Yet Justine's comparison with shoplifters was taken totally literally.

The irony Hmm

Lizzylou · 25/08/2017 17:28

So a long standing, popular and (I always thought) very sensible and thoughtful poster is banned for posting a silly, harmless picture on
another site yet the boards are littered with seemingly endless trolls who constantly escape detection?

Fabulous

Saucery · 25/08/2017 17:28

I've had a quick squizz at the Reddit thread (tiny Tiny writing) and Stratters didn't label it as a particular MNHQer.
It's more a pithy comment on the perception of the way complaints are handled, surely?

TheRealBiscuitAddict · 25/08/2017 17:31

The problem with trolling is the definition and people's understanding of it. For me, a troll is someone who makes up a story for sympathy, money, clicks whatever the reason, we've had a number of them over the years.

But to other people trolling is considered people who express nasty opinions. I don't consider those trolls, I consider them to be people who are just unpleasant and have a keyboard to do it behind.

In terms of the community feel there has definitely been a change, and likely part of that is because MN has expanded, and with it we have more people ready to take advantage.

But back in the day we had mile for Maud in memory of a well-known poster whose baby died of SIDS. When another poster's DD died of cancer the posters were there for her because she was a well known poster. Equally when onlyjoking's dh died of a brain tumour MN was there throughout his illness and even arranged a collection for him. Equally misdee's DH had a heart transplant and MN'ers were aware.

Even the MN Christmas appeal was started by an individual or collective of individuals who were well known members, and that gathered momentum over the years until it became too big.

But now we have so many trolls who are prepared to use those situations to their advantage, such as the most recent one, that not only is it not possible to have a community feel any more due to the size of MN, but MN have reached a point where they will no longer permit it because of the possibility that it's more likely a fraud than not and they can't allow their site to be used for the purpose.

JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 17:32

I'll report then - there are some very obvious ones around at the moment

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/08/2017 17:35

TheNiffler/Stratters is my friend, and I know her to be a thoroughly decent person. I am appalled that MNHQ have called her a troll. I cannot imagine anyone less troll-like.

juneybean · 25/08/2017 17:36

Act like a troll get called a troll.

Pagwatch · 25/08/2017 17:37

Ursula / Norma

Yes, it's funny but I remember using that analogy years ago!
I think the sheer number of posters on the site was always going to change how the site feels - it's inevitable.
Even the speed of threads now and how routinely posters namechange means it's much rarer to have a thread that feels like a conversation in a pub. It's more like shouting in a nightclub.
Even this thread shows how few posters try and engage and discuss anymore - the default post seems to be outsnarking whoever you see s the opposition.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2017 17:39

Have you read her comments on this thread?! A troll by most definitions.

PandorasXbox · 25/08/2017 17:42

Surely she knew that someone from HQ, possibly Justine might see the cockroach picture? Seems all a bit goady if you ask me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/08/2017 17:42

I don't 'know' her but always recognise her name and like her posts which is a bonus these days tbh! She always strikes me as being decent and sensible.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/08/2017 17:44

Pagwatch!!!!! I've not seen you around in ages.

Awww ,it's like the old timesSmile

OlennasWimple · 25/08/2017 17:44

To me, a troll is someone who posts stuff simply to get a reaction. KAtie Hopkins, Richard Littlejohn, Jeremy Clarkson, Howard Stern type stuff. Sometimes the reaction is supposed to be sympathy, maybe offers of support (financial and emotional). Sometimes the stories are completely made up, often they are based in truth somewhere along the line. Or they can simply be throw away comments that are so GFy that the poster knows that the thread will explode in response.

FaithHopeCharityDesperation · 25/08/2017 17:44

Have you read her [Stratters/Niffler] comments on this thread?! A troll by most definitions.

Confused Voicing a conflicting opinion isn't trolling.
BackieJerkhart · 25/08/2017 17:45

Has niffler/stratters been banned?
