The next time you send an email about a poster to that poster by mistake. Probably best not to refer to your users as 'these people'

Words fail me.

Actually if I'm a "prefect", surely Justine is Madge Bettany?

I'd love to be Madge Bettany.

I have always been of the view that if you don't like something then you don't have to post there. I absolutely do believe that HQ have some questions to answer in terms of their own conduct internally e.g. Sending emails to the wrong users to bitch about said users and whether reporting threads/posters now constitutes troll hunting and is something which posters face being banned for. But this is the internet and people don't have to stay if they don't like it, but freedom of speech does give people the ability to voice their opinions on a subject.

However, I was around back in the day when some of the MN users left to create moldies, and the absolute uproar that caused including among MN HQ had to be seen to be believed, including articles in the guardian where I believe Justine's DH worked at the time.

So while MN HQ absolutely have the right to say to posters that if they no longer like it here they don't have to stay, let's not pretend that there wasn't a time when, when some people did exactly that (and no, I wasn't part of the group that set up moldies or an invitee,) MN HQ expressed their absolute outrage and apparent hurt that MN users should feel that MN had become such that they had no alternative but to set up another forum as MN hhad changed so much that it no longer met their needs.

Was it in the Guardian? I remember the Telegraph and the Mail doing a story but not the Guardian. And the real outrage was from those not invited as I recall it - we were sad but not outraged...

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2017 16:28

I read it in the Telegraph

JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 16:28

Thanks @JustineMumsnet

Somerville · 25/08/2017 16:35

Someone in Moldies told me they invited Justine to join... I don't want to know if this isn't true, because the hubris of it makes me laugh so much.

Viviennemary · 25/08/2017 16:39

Where is this Mouldies. Can anyone join.

OlennasWimple · 25/08/2017 16:41

I don't want to be on MN if half the posters are actually thinking the stuff that the Redditors are posting

JigglyTuff · 25/08/2017 16:42

On the trollery front, there are a number of posters who do low-level trolling. Would you like reports on them? Essentially, at an individual level, their posts aren't that nice, they're a bit spiteful but not reportable. But in totality, you get a picture that they are just needlessly unkind on every single thread on which they post.

I suppose it's clever trolling - flying just under the radar

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 25/08/2017 16:46

Place marking to go back and read the rest of the thread.

I don't think it's representative. I think there's a small number of posters who are shouting loud and a lot of lurkers probably watching just in case someone posts about them.

QueenMortificado · 25/08/2017 16:54

Can't people just get some perspective? This is just a chat forum. It isn't compulsory to be here and is free.

If you don't like it, don't use it. All these demands and trying to hold mnhq to ransom is utterly pathetic.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 16:56

Really @YouandYour

I've actually got myself a bingo card now for personal insults here one can only assume summer holidays are getting to much for some.

But I don't understand people bitchy about Reddit here and then bitchy about MN here just do it on the site unless your banned or whatever

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 25/08/2017 16:57

Meant bitching about MN there

PandorasXbox · 25/08/2017 16:58

Niffler why not just piss off to Reddit full time? I don't get you. You've obviously got a huge grudge against MN.

SoNouveau · 25/08/2017 17:07

I imagine Niffler's grudge is more about how HQ treat some the GF's and refuse to acknowledge the way some appear to be made of teflon.

NormaDesmondsEyebrows · 25/08/2017 17:07

I don't think she has a grudge. I think it's just like, say you were a regular at a really lovely little bar. You knew all the staff and other regulars and door staff, had a good thing going, lots of friendly chats and in-jokes. Then the bar moves to a much bigger premises. Employs loads of new staff and attracts loads of new customers. Suddenly you don't understand half the banter and people give you the side eye.

And one day you go in and crack a joke like you used to, or maybe even have one too many. And all of a sudden you are hauled out by a bouncer you don't know, and the manager (who although not a friend exactly, was someone you knew and respected), agreed with your ejection and said 'we don't need your sort in here these days'.

That's a bit like MN feels these days. I mean, kudos to you for making a (massive) success of it, but I do feel it's lost the community feel it had back when 'twas all fields.

Actually I did/do report these sort of posters. When I got responses they were mostly of a 'thanks, we're aware and are keeping an eye on this poster' nature so it seemed like HQ felt the same way about them.

I still seem to get some non-automated responses to my reports, is that weird?

UrsulaPandress · 25/08/2017 17:10

But being an arse doesn't make you a troll. It just makes you an arse.

Norma You are so right.

I remember Pag using a similar analogy when some posters were whining about MN Royalty and being ignored or some such.
